Seems I am quicker than the game. 500 turns ago I was level 25. Now at turn 4656, I am level 33 after increasing my Stealth into 45. According to the table, I should meet captains of lv 21. Interesting feat Well, the difficulty modifier will assume that you are lvl 21, but depending on difficulty will multiply captain levels by 150 or 200%. What I'm still tryung to figure is if the game will modify based on those min levels expected or what your current level is... And I got smoked by pirates, mostly Indy but some Clan ones as I'm aiming for the lvl 20 without buying a new ship... and I have issues reaching the water-fuel upgrade, having my money flush and keeping my crew water-efficient. I just gotta figure how to get intimidate up without throwing everything out of balance-- pilot at 2x my level isn't cutting it.

UPDATE: Currently lvl 7 (likely lvl 8 very soon) at 860 turns and with $426k in the bank. Now I just need to figure a way to lower my bounty with DV and Rychart without losing 100k... Dammit, gimme missions that don't rob me blind...
Friendly with Javat, Cadar, and Steel Song. I'm willing to drop SS, but only if I can get DV and Rychart back to the damn table...

Shall I write a guide of an easy lv 20 reach on insane?

Officer Genious For your top screenshot, Pilot too low. Tactics too high. Nice amount of cash built up though Shame that your bottom captain died. I think you're investing in other skills areas when you should just focus on getting that pilot skill level up (eg investing in Charisma and Strength). Another thing you can do is only invest in base attributes when you've got enough XP to go up 1x skill at the same time. IE, only add 1 to Quickness when you're also able to add 1x to Pilot. You had 12 Charisma, but only 9 for Negotiate. That's 3x Charisma points that could have been invested in something else ... like pilot

It... hasn't helped but for one or two instances so far. Tactics I was upping as I was getting constant encounters just moving on the map-- like no time to hit the back button on this stupid waypoint toast I mis+-touched about 10+ turns ago kind of constant. But I probably needed stealth. ... Damn I'm dumb, I seriously should've put those back in Stealth and Pilot again... Aww hell.

OH WAIT I think Polonzo the 1st was me screwing around with the Character Designer, which is why Charisma was 12 but Negotiate was 9. XD

Polonzo the 3rd is lvl 9 on Insane. I'm doing much better, thanks to an Impact Shield Generator. Screenshot uploaded to officergenious on Imgur!

So I noticed the challenge for finding the original home world on Impossible and saw an easy new unlock, right? I'm not having much luck at all in Crazy (all dead by level 6, often by level 4), so whatever, I tried it. I honestly did not expect the first 20-30 turns to be so mind-blowingly difficult. I chose to be an Independent Star Trader, figuring that I wasn't going to live long anyway... But I swear to God I never knew I could run into three or so separate encounters before I even reach my first system, nevermind trying to land on the damn planet with hostile encounters left and right. But I did it. And had absolutely $0 credits to purchase fuel with. And I only had 3 fuel left. Mother of God. But I can pick up contracts, right? Nope. And after I turn in my initial message the neighboring planets had nothing for me either. ... My crew just mutinied, I had no money and no contracts. Oh shit. Shit, shit shit sh... Ohh, contract. Delivery about 13AU away for $4,000... Total crap but I'm desperate. And I actually pulled it off. And another at 11AU, 8AU, 9AU... Yeah, I'm a level 3 glorified space trucker of a Star Trader with missiles. But I'm surviving on Impossible. (and yes, I got that ship unlock too) Huh? What's the name of that Award?

Just posting to say that my lvl 28 Crazy Smuggler who unlocked lots of stuff for me just passed thanks to a lvl 80 Kranng Alien, who completely dominated the midrange battle despite me having 57 Pilot with a 18:38+ Hull:Engine ratio and it (the Alien) a 20 Hull to 30 Engine/Sail Ratio. contributor, resident alien expert, do all aliens just ignore the rules about Hulls and Engine/Sails ratios? I'm just looking at the battle screenshot I took as I died and I still don't understand what just happened. Or was it just the absurd lvl difference? I ask because I want to improve my survivability for my next captain, so being able to understand what rules Aliens play by would help IMMENSELY.
