LOCATION: Templar Strike Cruiser "Righteous Fallen"
CONDITION: Heavy damage to ship's hull and superstructure
STATUS: Xeno boarding force inbound
Through the dark of Deep Space, they came. The Xeno, our ancient foe. Without contact form the main Fleet, we will have no reinforcements. Templar Command has ordered the Aer Prima to guard the Colony hives while the Righteous Fallen guards the rear. We must hold and protect our Colony Hives.
A shudder and the sound of screaming metal tore through the ship, cutting off the sound from the klaxons. Moments before, they were screaming and flashing, ordering all Templars to battle stations. All Leviathan pilots had begun to make their way to their assigned defensive positions, but the Xeno ship was too fast. The smell of burning, the sound of explosions, both signs of immense danger. Corporal Caelius Aurelius had been leading his squad to a security station to set up their defense when the Xeno cruiser slammed into the strike cruiser they had called home all of their lives.
When the explosion ripped through the deck, the squad stood no chance. Blast doors had sealed most of them in, while the intense heat and force of the blast had likely destroyed them, if not their Leviathans. By some miracle of Shalun, Corporal Aurelius was still alive, with undamaged Leviathan. The blast had interfered with his vox comms, but when the static cleared he could hear a voice.
"I'm getting so much interference...But I'm picking up another Templar on the 12th deck, Cappa sector, sir. This is Comms Sergeant Kathos, do you copy?"
Caelius jumped at the opportunity to reestablish contact with Command.
"Yes I do Sergeant. This is Corporal Aurelius, Blade Class Leviathan. I've been seperated from my squad. The blast collapsed the corridor they were in. I'm alone."
There was a pause before the vox crackled to life again.
"Copy that Corporal. We have reports of severe casualties on all preceding decks. There are fires spreading through damaged bulkheads on your deck."
Before the Sergeant could continue, a blast of flame erupted from a nearby bulkhead. The vox was full of static.
"A f..ll wi.hd.aw ... been ordered."
The static cleared. Caelius began to move his Leviathan down the what remained of the hallway, as Kathos briefed him.
"There are only two other Templars who have reported in on this deck. Major Luthor and Soldier Dalan. The Major has requested that any Knights on the deck aid in reinforcing his position at bulkhead E6. Dalan has already begun to make his way there. Be careful Corporal, as the Xeno have already started to infest that deck. Enemy signatures are inbound to your position."
Of course. The Xeno are already here, thought Caelius. As his mech approached the security station, his Sensorkit started pinging, alerting him of incoming Xeno signatures. His lineage had prepared him for moments like this. Small signatures, moving fast. Skitterings for sure. Caelius moved towards the damaged bulwark. Some cover was better than none. He quickly noted the ruptured Leviathan suit nearby, dripping with gore.
Caelius spotted the Skitterings. They rapidly closed on his position. With reflexes honed from hundreds of hours of practice and millions of hours of Lineage memories, he was ready. The first skittering to die was the one trying to flank him. Two quick shots from his plasma pistol burned through the carapace and killed the insectoid abomination.
"For Shalun!" the Templar roared, knowing full well that the beasts could not understand him.
As the other skitterings closed in, he assumed a defensive posture, preparing to fend off the enemy. The first to attack was blocked by his blade, and spotting an opening, Caelius swung the massive sword in his left hand, slicing the hideous creature in half. Two more closed in on him. He blocked their attacks as well, but when he tried to counter one, he missed, opening himself to attack from the other. The razor sharp claws of the skittering struck his armor, leaving a few gouges. No major amage, but a reminder to be more careful.
Caelius pressed the attack. He crushed one with his blade, the lopped the right legs off of the other, before finishing it off.
Suddenly, another blast shook the deck, and the door that Caelius had walked through before slammed shut and sealed itself.
"Damnation! What was that!"
Kathos's voice crackled through the comms. "The fires are spreading. The engineering team is trying to stop them by sealing them off from the rest of the ship. Get clear quickly Templar."
"Will do Kathos."
Caelius moved toward the only open door he could see. As he approached, he could hear gunfire. Someone ahead was firing a Leviathan gun. Caelius rushed ahead to find another Templar, Soldier Dalan, firing at a group of incoming xenos, trying to hold them back.
His voice boomed over the vox comms.
"Just in time sir! There's too many of them!"
Caelius approached Dalan, firing off two shots at the approaching xenos. "Do not worry Dalan. We will hold them back! With our ancestors' strength withing us, we will not fall!" With Caelius's firepower added to Dalan's, the skittering pack was soon decimated, with only blood and broken carapaces remaining.
Dalan turned his mech to face Caelius's. "Shalun's blessing to you, Templar. I would have been overrun alone."
Kathos's voice interrupted the two. "Knights! Time to move. The Major needs backup!"
Dalan responded first. "On our way Kathos."
