Ok, I'm making my most serious attempt at rocking the Hydra specialist for the community challenge and I'm discovering that the biggest problem is all the napalm that I leave everywhere. I have to be incredibly careful about not lighting the whole level on fire and cutting off my path forward. I'm looking at that Inferno Legion armor that gives +24 fire resistance. It got high armor (50) and low deflection (60%?). It costs 7 equipment points which will mean sacrifices elsewhere. Has anyone tried using this armor? I do like the idea of my templars just marching straight out of billowing clouds of Napalm to assault the xeno.
Any other pointers on how to effectively use the Hydra, especially for assault-type levels where you have to keep moving forward into the enemy, would be appreciated.

We also have a to-do to add some more fire and plasma resistance relics and gear. =)
Because we too, think marching straight out of billowing clouds of promethium is epic.

Have you tried Inferno Seal Buff?

Among these lines, is there anything that would support a fire suppression system that could be used to put out Promethium? I find myself wishing I could extinguish certain squares to make a hasty getaway...

Have you tried Inferno Seal Buff? Hmmmm, that's tempting. For some reason I was thinking both the Hydra's buffs were individual. Might have to have one pure flamer and one Leader-in-the-ranks Hydra...

The three add on classes that we have designs for are Templar Assassin, Valkyrie and Pyro (Flame Engineer)

contributorI'd use your Hydra to hit the flanks and cover rear mostly. Let other squad members clear any xeno in path of advance. Love my Hydras but even with armor and buffs they can quickly roast Squad if care isn't exercised. Really looking forward to someday seeing the Pyro class so my Squad can come streaming through flaming fields of promethium.

Hydra for flank and rear-guard, Berserker and Neptune for the front lines. Captain in the middle shouting orders and throwing down buffs.

Hydra for flank and rear-guard, Berserker and Neptune for the front lines. Captain in the middle shouting orders and throwing down buffs. Yes that is probably the way it should be done. It's just that for the challenge I want to mix things up. I want fire everywhere with troops that march right through it.

contributor, in that case you'll probably want to stack up as much resistance as possible and put big points into willpower. I've built Hydras for it in the past, and it does work, although you will have to manage the amazing amount of heat that is generated. I have my current Hydra built out with just the basic Shadowflame armor (3 req points, +24 fire resist, 34 armor, and 80% deflection) and light heat shielding (war gear, 1 req point, +2 armor, +12 fire resist) and very rarely take any fire damage with her. If you are really worried about fire, you can even toss on reinforced reclaimers (war gear, 2 req points, +15 max heat, +15 fire resist) and have a huge +43 fire resist for only 6 req points. All of that gear is available pretty early in the game and I tend to favor high deflection over high armor, so it's what I tend to roll my hydra with.

I'm a little concerned about heat too. I thought I read somewhere that marching through flaming tiles also raises your heat, but I can't find that in the LIbrary now. And I'm not just interested in my Hydra's being able to march through fire I want everybody to be able to do it.

Marching through heat does increase your Templar's heat, so you'll need to either find a way to burn it off or deal with it in some other way. I try to minimize my tromps through flame as much as possible, but sometimes it's unavoidable. That's why boosting the willpower is a must for bbq build hydras!

Hmm that doesn't make any sense, the suits are supposed to be completely element resistant. Otherwise walking through water would cool the suit down and it does not.
