Enraging Cadari is a great way to get hit by a Torpedo barrage Lol, is that a vote? Haha I voted on Patreon, for Orchid trying to ask about Julia's history If you want to, go ahead and count it twice. But I don't think I pay enough to have my votes count twice.

Haha, if it ends up being the question about her discharge from the Cadar navy, I am going to enjoy asking for suggestions on the dialog

I don't want Orchid to be that stupid. It would be different if she had no idea that this would be a sensitive subject. But if she knows it is sensitive, but decides to go start needling Julia anyway, then she is arrogant, or a fool, or a bully, maybe all three. But I wouldn't want her on my ship.

Difficult conversations can make friends or enemies, often one then the other later, usually enemy becomes the friend in time, but the other way happens if steely bitter resentment sets in for whatever reason. It's not always obvious how a touchy subject would be handled if there's not already animosity (or friendship) between them. I mean not everyone tries to gnaw the balls off a lion to handle a difficult situation.

But it is terribly manipulative to give Julia the nasty-question routine when Julia is trying to drive the truck in terrain. She cannot walk away, and she cannot easily kick Orchid out of the truck to walk home, so if Orchid picked this time to bring the subject up, knowing that she had Julia trapped, then what does that say about Orchid?

That really depends on motives, and her own level of judgement. Good motives don't perfectly equate to good judgement, nor good judgement good motives... Some of the sleaziest people always try look like their helping while robbing you blind (or worse) and some people that come off as assholes are bringing a down to earth perspective that goes against your ambitions or complacency etc. Edit: Besides Julia in no way needs to feel a victim, even if someone esle is, or comes off as manipulating, doesn't mean the one seeing the puppet string isn't able to ignore it, punch the would be puppeteer in the face, or even turn the tables or what have you. Social dynamics can always be different than first blush.

Interesting discussion about how their interchange might go. With the other votes currently spread around thin options, each getting 1 Vote, there doesn't look like a credible opponent to asking Julia about her naval career. That said, there are a lot of missing votes, and we usually get 10-15 over the week after a page is posted. My original thoughts for this were something lighter, but the Patreon votes!
If it ends up being the naval career, the spirit in which it is done is still very much within discussion.

grävling and wascalwywabbit, you both make good points. I think it can be done in a way that doesn't come off as Orchid being a jerk and Julia being caught off guard. Orchid could start off saying she heard a rumor in the last spice hall and Julia may be able to help confirm or deny it. Since there's a chance it might relate to her Cadar days, she wanted to wait until they were alone so she wouldn't have to deal with any others. Perhaps in this case, Julia doesn't mind as much if it's Orchid asking since she knows a lot about it anyway. She may give her a little snap back for bringing it up but nothing like the beat down she's know to give a drunk spacer shooting his mouth off.

ntsheep - I like the direction. I wonder what the rumor would be about. Let's push this collaboration I love the idea of all working on this together.

Maybe Orchid says something about being able to tell Julia is ex Navy from her demeanor/hairstyle/build, and tries to ask some probing questions.

Lots to learn about all these characters -- how long have they been together on the ship? Maybe someone is a new comer.
I better pick up the page pace lol

My vision of Orchid had her being an intelligent woman who would be very interested in figuring out information and finding what makes people tick. That said, despite being an adrenalin junky, she wouldn't be the type to create needless hostility in a crewmate just because she's bored or to sate her curiosity. Also keep in mind she's also a woman who has a past of her own and has reinvented herself at lesst once as the single name Orchid is highly improbable to be the one she was born with or even the only name she's ever used. The secrets about her own past would likely make her more empathetic to towards a close associate who is reluctant to share a great deal of information about their own past.

xdesperado - well said, that will help drive the dialog in the scene if that ends up being the vote. There is really still an opportunity for people to re-pool their votes for some other option. If you don't like a vote you cast earlier, let me know, I will change it in the tally. And, a lot of mission votes too.
