Why are the independents organized into an actual faction now? I thought the point of being independent was to not have anyone telling you what to do. Something like anti-federalism: every planet it's own boss, sticking it to the Man.

They've always been represented as a Faction, nothing new there. What change do you see in ST2? I don't see one  |

Hm. Perhaps it is merely my perspective or I'm not recalling an instance clearly. I had taken a couple missions against the Indies. When I finished them, I was surprised to see that I had accumulated negative reputation with them. Guess I'll need to check that out again to be sure.

@earthsuit - there are some bugs with missions going to indies, which we are working to fix. Otherwise, the same concepts as ST RPG>

I mean, it said you lost reputation. But who's keeping records? Not this guy.
If you check your Factions page, you'll see that those mad Indy couldn't get it to stick.
It is saying you lost 3 rep with Indies, but the Indy aren't keeping track of it.

K. Just me being a worry wart. Are we going to be able to take indie as our faction? I don't recall seeing it listed as one of the nine starters.

Slightly encouraging is the fact that before select a Faction during Character Creation, the Indy flag is shown. Except at this point it won't let you proceed until you pick one of the 6-9 proper factions...

Indy starting Faction would be a post release feature. It isn't something we really have budget / plans to do right now.
