Now that crop havesters are a restricted good, I am finding it much more difficult to generate a single 5K sale to use to get out-of-house contacts with my merchant talent. Maybe we need to be able to select more than one good to sell, sell the total and use the total price for such calculations? Something also seems wrong in this rep calculation, or how it is reported. I found a Thulun contact, and I worked with him so that my De Valtos merchant could have another house that actually likes him. I have a level 2 Trade permit with Thulun now, but the contact I was working with, a Spice Merchant, doesn't have the ability to advance me further. By this time I had heard of somebody else in the House who might be able to do this, so I went to visit him. If I already have 11 rep with this person. then I don't need to further impress him (9 rep). Or is the idea that I need 9 more rep with him? Regardless of what was meant, the rep with that person seems to be 11, except that this screen never was updated and still thinks my rep is 0. Since Logan de Quis the merchant doesn't give out missions, it makes it hard for me to know when I should go back to visit him for a level 3 permit.

I think this may be display bug. In the past, the first mentioned Rep number is current value, and the second Rep number is total required value for whatever action.
I assume Merchants will in the future offer delivery missions of some kind? Seems fitting.

Friendly Banter is coming in really useful now, in comparison. I'm experimenting with not having any of my Crew Dogs take their spice hall rumour gathering talent to see if Friendly Banter has higher success.

I've noticed inconsistencies with the rep numbers shown in those displays. Given the different types of rep--my rep with faction, my rep with contact, contact rep with faction, more?--and my casual play style, I was never sure if it was an error or my lack of understanding.
I really like greavlings--phonetic spelling :-)--suggestion that the Merchant talent should count multiple sales towards the $5,000 total. Maybe it could total all the sales in one visit to an Exchange.

Changing 5k threshold to total sale essentially means a new Contact every 3-4 weeks.
Depends what the "expected" game behaviour is supposed to be. If finding new Contacts is supposed to be a rather rare event, then this would make the Talent overpowered.

Good point Athios. That concern could be addressed by raising the threshold above the its current $5k mark.
I was mildly frustrated when I bought crop harvestors from two different planets for the express purpose of breaking the $5k sale threshold and triggering the talent. But then the harvestors were sold in two batches because I bought them at different prices.

Did you look in the Cargo display you can get via 'Status'? I only learned about that one today, too.

I'm sure you're correct grävling. Thanks for the info. While checking cargo, I noticed a spot to check on Mission Items. Mission Item shows I've got a Negotiator on board, but I just finished that mission and he should be gone. I double checked my Mission screen, it shows no missions. Is this the dread passenger cabin squatter? Any pointers on getting rid of him? Edit: Status Screen shows 0/1 Passengers.

Go make a new thread for it. And then log out of the game and back in and see if it clears the problem.

I've noticed that the trait activates when you buy as well, not only selling.
So does the +rep trait of $5k.

Just to briefly jump back onto the original topic, I think it's still possible to use the 5k-trade Talent without a Trade Permit. Say if you have a 50-cargo hold, and you had a few dozen Polymer Ingots from the same Faction.

But the initial bug report on the rep calculation still stands.
