Why should I care what they are? What effects do they have in the game? (I am not talking about the captain, who has to repeatedly make a <something in the pool> + <one of his or her attributes> save, but the other officers and crew.)
I figured if we could get skills settled, then this is the next question.

Well, I'm sure Fortitude and Resilience affect the likelihood of them dying and deserting, respectively. No clue about the others.

For standard crew members, Attributes have very little effect, unless they are called in by a Talent or used in Crew Combat.
Fortitude and Strength are used to calculate Max HP. Resilience and Wisdom are used to calculate Max Morale.
We have a roadmap in place to tie in more Attributes, but this is where we are at today.
Attributes on individual crew members (non-officers) are never going to be used in game tests like Navigation or a mission test.

Hi there- sorry to dig up an old subject but specifically for the officers (not the captain or standard crew) does a high charisma or wisdom have any effect on performance?
I was wondering if there was any meaning to (for example) picking a high wisdom character for engineer or doctor jobs and a high charisma character for diplomat/commander/ military officer /pirate jobs. It would make sense
I know it's work in progress, thanks!!

Same answer as before --
Fortitude and Strength are used to calculate Max HP. Resilience and Wisdom are used to calculate Max Morale.
Some Attributes are used in Talent checks, most often Charisma

Check the talent list here: startraders.gamepedia.com/Merchant -- lots of them refer to the charisma of the character using the talent. There is one Diplomat talent -- Upstaged Success -- and one Spy talent -- Data Haul -- that also benefit from higher charisma.

And many more to come. Attributes will also play a role in Trait mutation and metagame, relative to the Character's ability to secure, mutate and select on preferred or non-preferred traits. We also haven't ruled out additional rulesets around ... soaking Morale damage, avoid HP damage, dodging hits in combat/travel. There are a lot of possible features we might add in the future

It appears that the jobs with talents affected by attributes are currently: Commander (shrewd dealings) Military officer (power play) Merchant (known trader, market confidant, friendly banter) Diplomat (upstaged success) Spy (data haul)

I'd really appreciate it too if you could consider lending some direct benefits to wisdom for doctor and engineer jobs, and perhaps commander and spy too. The other jobs are arguably vocational but it feels right to have very wise characters gaining when making critical, unprecedented decisions in the depths of space!

Perhaps! We'll stick with our attribute and skill design for the job system. Maybe what you're asking for is how it already works. If not, there is a really good reason for the other way.
In the ST game design system, concurrent balance is crucial for diverse play experiences over the long curve. Understanding that players *think* they want stacks but they really don't for the quality of the game.
