Considering how hard it is to get +Rep on average, this Talent seems overpowered. With my high level Diplomat, I'm actually gaining +18 Rep for each Faction ship I defeat. Seems a bit counter-intuitive, as I've been deliberately hunting down Faction ships "to establish good relations". If there were a Big Tent award, I'd have it by now. Might be a good idea (if possible to implement) to have the +Rep mitigation limited to the amount of Rep that would have been lost to begin with (i.e. never gives additional positive Rep from encounter). Maybe even have the Talent make you Leave the encounter immediately (no further changes possible), forcing it to be last Talent/action used. Suggested use casesExample 1 - +5 Rep potential from MV, Loot Fuel -3 Rep, Loot Cargo -6 Rep, net effect = -4 Rep Example 2 - +18 Rep potential from MV, Loot Fuel -3 Rep, Loot Cargo -6 Rep, net effect = no Rep change (negative Rep fully mitigated) Example 3 - +18 Rep potential from MV, Loot Fuel -3 Rep, Loot Cargo -6 Rep, Destroy ship -8 Rep = -17 Rep (MV has no effect — based on the name and description, I don't think the Talent should fire at all if you Destroyed the opponent or Enslaved any crew)

That does sound pretty broken. Defeating ships should definitely be a negative reputation result.
We'll take a look at the balance issue you bring up. Thanks!

This was on my list to report today, too.

athios - thanks for the full break down of how you were using it. Your suggestions are spot on: (1) Fix the bug that allows you to gain Rep. This is only supposed to mitigate. (2) MV is disabled if you do anything like Loot or Steal Fuel, and if you MV, then these options are disabled.

Because I have this horrible vision of me, out of water fuel and either broke or in a territory where nobody is willing to sell me any, holding up ships to get the w/f to get one hop away .... and having MV fire again, and again, and again so I cannot get the fuel I need. If one of you wretches promises the next mark that 'of course we wouldn't dream of taking your water-fuel', it's out the airlock with you! I'm serious!

MV fires when you click on its row. It is an active Talent. The description will be updated to indicate that it ends your engatement.

I should have known that. sorry. I guess the image of me threatening to toss senior staff out the airlock was too compelling.

Ok ... fixing OP --
1) MV cannot restore more Rep than you lost. So, no ability to get positive rep. 2) If you Ransom or Destroy the ship, you cannot use MV. You can loot, fuel, conscript and still play nice at the end.

Ah, conscripting is ok but not ransoming? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

The decision is that an aggressive action toward the entire ship disables the ability to use MV. By locking down their ship, and calling in the Faction to exchange big monies, you are not being Magnanimous.
If you conscript a few of their sailors, steal a bit of their cargo or fuel -- you can still say nice things to their Captain and let the ship go of its own accord. Basically, anything that doesn't end in a peaceful parting ways right then and there disables MV. Basically, any time you can let them off the hook.

Okay. Makes sense once explained.

I can easily think of being ransomed as the magnanimous action -- compared to 'destroy the ship and salvage the results', but I don't mind that it is on the list of 'don'ts'. I don't think of enslaving as particularly magnanimous, though. I'd rather you added it to the list of things you cannot do.
Something I wonder -- could it be possible to find crew on ships you capture who are already enslaved members of your faction? i.e. the captain you just defeated already enslaved them? In which case they might beg you to free them. They'd be happy to serve, or just to get dropped off at the next home faction planet

I don't think of enslaving as particularly magnanimous, though. I think we've done ourselves a disservice with the alpha art for Press Crew's button. Pressing Crew means you take them from a full-time position on the enemy ship and install them as a full-time crew member of your ship, pay them wages, and they have full reign to act accordingly. Slavery is illegal under the Faction Accords.
