You have Talents that 100% Save Ship Ops saves. Why would you take your Ship Ops to 200%? Live dangerously From watching on Twitch, I play a much more cavalier style of ST2 than the rest of you.

Ah, I think you can conclude that you play a lot more cavalierly than we can talk Cory into playing, at any rate. The neat thing about this game is that there are so many different ways you can play it.

We tried to talk Cory into using his captain for Frontline combat like Brutus does... If that's not cavalier enough, what in the world do YOU do??

Good luck, let us know how it goes, brave badger! If you are in a Heavy Lift, when your crew reaches level 7, you can reduce the complement to 4/5 of them, and your ship runs just fine. Lots of Safety Protocol saves, but by the time the last dog uses his, the first one's has cooled off, and so it goes. Done this 3 times now, and while one of these captains meet an ignomous end as a bankrupt pauper, lack of crewdogs did not contribute to her problem. (Taking BH missions to catch people in the wilderness, because she only skimmed the mission brief, combined with being abysmally bad at Explore was her largest problem. New HL captains cannot afford to take many missions they then fail.) Therefore I think that John Robinson's Juror, Team Solar Clipper, which has 6 active crewdogs startradersrpg.proboards.com/thread/16035/team-solar-clipper?page=1&scrollTo=190587 could swap 2 or 3 of them out for somebody else, should John wish to do that.

You could also look at other jobs that provide Ship Ops. Bringing on more Gunners, Star Traders, or Mechanics.

What about new jobs that provide ship ops and fill other role? I'd like a job that combined ship ops with crew combat like....
Marine: Primary-Rifle, Secondary-Evasion, Tertiary-Ops Turtle: Primary-Evasion, Secondary-Ops, Tertiary-Swords

There will be a few more Jobs that add to Ship Ops, including jobs like Quartermaster. We aren't planning any of the fighting crew jobs to provide Ship Ops, its not a good direction to take the balance.

Mannnn, he played the balance card on me... that's like being torped for a major critical hit, there's no comeback for it. ;-)
Maybe one of the new jobs could have Ship Ops as its primary skill. That'd help reduce the number crew dogs required.
My few efforts at reducing crew dogs by filling Ship-Ops using crew with jobs like gunner/mechanic have been frustrated by an overabundance of gunners and mechanics because Ops is a secondary skill for them.

tenbsmith - work on leveling up those crew and continually managing your crew dog count. A few high level characters in any of those positions can make a huge difference. From a balance standpoint, combat crew are boarding crew. They are ready to be picked at any time to leap onto an enemy ship, or rush to do battle to protect their own ship. You can't do that if you are critical in the engine room. An officer can fulfill that kind of position because they are commanding crew, as opposed to doing the manual labor themselves. This is why the "balance card" had to be played

I guess i was thinking about old pirate movies where the whole crew goes over the rail when boarding an enemy.
No worries about playing the balance card. I joked about it, but I'm totally good with it too. Good to get a definitive no so i can move on to other skylarking.
Any chances of a new job with Ship Ops as primary? I'm good either way.

tenbsmith - I don't think there will be any other jobs with Ship Ops as primary.

Ship Ops is the monkeywork that keeps the ship running. It doesn't make sense for another profession other than the "lowly" Crew Dog to be doing those types of tasks for the majority of their time. At least, that's the kind of answer I got when I asked why my Captain can't put starting skill points into Ship Ops.
