Each ship has a maximum for Officers. You can get Officer Cabins up to that limit, but beyond that they are not helpful. contributor - not something we are planning to add, but thanks for the suggestion. The intention of the stories is not that you'd go around and form an officer cadre of all these story officers. However, from both your posts on the subject, it still sounds like we would do well to make these officers stand out more in their intrinsic value.

Yeah, in the game where I managed to get Nikolai, I got "lucky" and had one of my officers get killed in a ship combat just before I started the stroryline, so I just kept the position open until I was able to get Nik to join.
He turned out to be slightly lower level than my other officers, so I probably would have been disappointed if I had dismissed an officer to make room for him. After spending $50K and jumping through all those hoops, I'd kind of expect to get someone better than my average officer.
Looking at them now, my other officers have 8006 and 7998 XP, and Nik has 7298. They've all levelled up a few times, but they probably have all gotten equal experience points. None of them ever do any crew combat. So he's about 700XP below par.

khearn - they are setup to recruit at 80% of your Captains' level. Maybe that is too low?

bookworm21 - good point, I can modify this to be difficulty aware.

Having even more fun with Zerod -- he's got his new outfit and helmet, and now he's got some new tricks up his sleeve for the next release.

This is sort of an old bug, or possible bug, but I don't see any difference to the story whether I go in and fight the xeno or not. When I do that, it says explicitly that I got the Relic Sextant. However, whether I do that fight or not, I have the option to give it to De Rivesh, keep the sword and still get Gus off the hook. Maybe this is the way it's supposed to be though...

Just sounds like a bug. Added it to my list to test and fix.
