When you select a ship, you read
Fidelis Cutter: Fuel 60 Frontier Liner: Fuel 40 Juror Class: Fuel 55 Galtak Freighter: Fuel 30
But then, you discover you have
Fidelis Cutter: 46 Fuel Range Frontier Liner: 60 Fuel Range Juror Class: 95 Fuel Range Galtak Freighter: 85 Fuel Range
It would be better to list Fuel Range than Fuel during ship selection.
How is Fuel Range calculated, by the way? And what does Fuel mean? Fuel capacity? Fuel efficiency? The examples above really don't make that clear at all.

So, these numbers: (I believe this is correct)
First of all, "Fuel" is the fuel capacity of the ship. In the ship select screen the base fuel capacity is shown, this can be increased by components (some of which are installed as starter components on some hulls)
Each ship also has a 'fuel consumption' raring, with little ships like the Juror and Scout ship only using 1 fuel per move, the paladin and frontier liner using 2 per move, etc etc
The Fuel Range number at the bottom of the screen is the number of moves you can make before you run out of fuel
Fuel Range = fuel left/fuel consumption

Yeah, I know what Fuel Range means, and that's my point: Fuel Range matters more than fuel capacity when choosing a ship. Where is fuel consumption indicated? If Fuel 40 means the Frontier Liner has a fuel capacity of 40, and if Fuel 30 means the Galtak Freighter has a fuel capacity of 30, then why is the fuel consumption of the latter so much less?

The engine.

OK, good to know. So the Galtak Freighter has a better engine ... or just a less powerful one?
(It isn't clear, in game, what improving your engine will give you, either, and the upgrade is so expensive that I haven't tried it yet.)
Indicating Fuel Range on the ship selection page would be useful.

It would be good if, at some point in the future, all that information could be accessed within the game when you select a ship. Is there a way to upgrade your ship so as to reduce the "fuel cost to move on map"? (Wait, the Scout Cutter has a Hyperwarp cost of 0??)

SinoceltIt's been up since almost the beginning of the Alpha. Still needs formatting love, but all the info is there (which is what we cared about at the time).

Also, it's still Alpha UI.
It will look a lot prettier, have more info, etc... AND you will eventually be able to do some upgrades (within your budget), So choose A or B for your ship, but select a smaller ship, upgrade to your liking, etc... all at game creation/start.
Pretty freaking cool

Yup, but currently ...
1. Is there a way to upgrade your ship so as to reduce the "fuel cost to move on map"? 2. Is it normal for the Scout Cutter to have a Hyperwarp cost of 0 (on the Wiki)?

1. no. See below for the correct answer. But you can also get a bigger fuel tank, or a bigger cargo bay, or some other upgrade that has fuel storage as part of it. I primarily play Guardian Interceptor, and with 2 large cargo bays, can travel 3 sectors or so between fueling. And with other upgrades and talents, normally use zero fuel on hyperwarp. 2. Never played the Scout Cutter. Um, try it an see?

1. Yes. upgrade your engine. I wondered about that, but for lack of funds, I could never test the idea. It would be a good idea to include this information in the upgrade panel. Right now, I have two options to upgrade my Freighter's engine, but do I need to pay for the more expensive option? or would the less expensive option also reduce my fuel consumption from 2 to 1? Right now, we can't even tell what upgrading the engine does at all, except soak more skills.

Definitely a UI that we are working on improving!
Without the info being displayed, its engine to engine as to what combat Reactor Points, Map Fuel Cost, Speed, Agility and Safety Rating are.
We'll work on getting this in very soon.

We'll work on getting this in very soon. I do miss that kind of thing from ST: Original. How you could see between skill, engine, hull, etc... to see what worked best. Also the things like quick/fast, etc. Definitely some things that I hope we get to eventually with ST:F Will there ever be anything quite like the green/red grid for movement, or an equivalent?
