I just got a slew of pirates who all attacked me and I couldn't surrender to any of them. It's pretty freaking annoying. I lost a lot of good crew just trying to escape when I would have happily stopped and let them rob me blind. One of them actually did knock out my engines and then he proceeded to loot me. Really if he was just going to loot me to begin with I could have just surrendered and saved us all a lot of hull damage. Anyways I don't know the dynamics behind this but it's pretty annoying. The point of a pirate is they want to rob me. Great I don't care with this captain, rob me, but why damage both our ships first. It doesn't make any sense.

What was their hostility level? At some point I think they just want to attack you regardless of whether you'd surrender or not.
Out for vengeance, not for loot, maybe?

Correct -- but in this case we are disabling the Surrender button because our expectation is that the Pirate will kill your Captain and Officers if victorious. Might be a bug, if you were not killed. Might be an issue of difficulty masking the fatal defeat.
I'll check into this, but yes -- the game will (must) include enemies that cannot be surrendered to, and must be met in combat. That's a design requirement.

I've also encountered pirates like this. Did not know it was bug. I certainly agree it's annoying, though.

Ok, but it doesn't make any sense to the player. These hidden rules in encounters should have some explanation. Like "This pirate is so mad at you for having -5 rep with his faction because their ships saw you flying around in your faction's quadrant with legal goods that he is going to kill you even if you surrender." Surrender Yes/No?
Difficulty was brutal so it must be a bug that I wasn't killed.

I think Cory was saying it's intentional - they don't let you surrender as that would mean letting unsuspecting captains surrender and then be executed without a chance of survival. It may not mean much for lower difficulties, but on permadeath this would suck big-time

Offering a button that when you click it leads to player death is a lesson I think we've learned lol. Maybe we can put in a row in the table indicating that surrender is not an option.

Yeah, I think when this goes on Steam a lot of people are going to want to know why things are happening or why they are or aren't given any options. The more these things are transparent the more happy (or at least not really really pissed) players you're going to have.
