I've noticed a few questions that people ask a lot in the Discord and forum, so I'll try to make a list of Frequently Asked Questions here so people won't need to ask. I may expand this list over time.
Q1)Can Factions conquer each others planets?
Answer: No. Planets and quadrants do not change hands at all.
Q2) How do I find more contacts?
Answer: There are multiple ways to get new contacts.
One way is through Introductions. Some contacts, such as Princes and Military Commanders, will have a service called "Introductions" that will let buy a new contact with credits from the list of that contact's connections. (You cannot buy contacts from Introductions if the contact you are buying from has negative relations with that contact.)
Another way is through Talents. E-techs and Navigators have the "Listening Post" and "Talk of Far Worlds", respectively, and these Talents require an 8 rank in their Job to acquire, but are very useful for learning about new contacts. The Merchant Job is very good for acquiring new contacts, and has two Talents it can acquire at rank 1 that can give you more contacts.
A third way is through blockading, patrolling, spying, or exploring. These minigames can have a "Discover Contact" result card.
Q3) I'm getting hit a lot in ship combat! How do I make ship combat worth the cost of repairs?
Answer: Post-victory Talents, such as the Engineer's "Warfare Patch" and the Gunner's "Loot Armory" will repair some of your ship damage for free. It's good to have multiple of these kinds of Talents for ship combat-focused captains.
Having components that increases your ship's armor, like "Armored Bulkheads" or "Reinforced Structures", will decrease the amount of damage the enemy ship's weapons will deal to you.
Installing Pilot Assist Modules, Nav Assist Modules, and/or Sensor Arrays to increase your ship's Electronics and Pilot skill soak will increase your chances of evading the enemy ship's weapons, which will, of course, decrease the amount of injuries and damage your crew and ship sustains. If you don't know what it means to "increase your ship's Electronics and Pilot skill soak" I recommend you read the "Ship Skill Pools" section of this wiki page: startraders.gamepedia.com/Skill_Pools
Talents that increase defence, such as Evasive Maneuvers, also increase your chance to dodge enemy attacks.
Q4) Can I subtract or add more component slots to my ship?
Answer: No. You can only replace components that you have, you cannot sell off or add more component slots. If you feel the need for more component slots, perhaps you should buy a bigger ship.
