Dear All,
First of all, Star Traders is a really great game and it got me hooked instantly. I'm still trying to find out the right Captain configuration but some Information on the Steam forums as well as the difficulty description left me a little confused.
Is there permadeath for the captain on the lower difficulty ratings? The Description says no - but in the Forums there is a lot of information people loose their captain to permadeath even on the lower difficulties.
Maybe you can help to clarify the confusion.
Thanks & Kind Regards
Lionrichard

I had lost a battle on basic difficulty but didn't die. Hull ruptured, ship exploded.
Best not to ask why I died on basic.

Okay so it is impossible to die on Basic difficulty? What happend after the ship exploded? Where you left off with a damaged ship?

It was slightly damaged, yes. However, repairable.
I believe the damage is more significant on Normal-(Whatever's below Hard), then Hard+ being permadeath.

LionRichard,
There is no permadeath until a certain level of difficulty. After that, you will still have an XX% chance of survival. IIRC, that is the current mechanic.
With 2.2x they will introduce custom difficuly, including permadeath/non-permadeath options for any level of gameplay.
In the meantime, explosions/other on your ship are non-lethal, imprisonment is for XX period of time (if you surrender or are boarded by a hostile ship crew), but your game will resume.
