EP 2: Opening Bone Pass?

OK, I am confused.

According some posts here (like: startradersrpg.proboards.com/thread/17075/max-exp-episode-2) you can gain access to the Ember Lake base camps and open Bone Pass with an Ember Log in Episode 2.  However, I have (almost?) completed Episode 2, but I cannot figure out how to do either of these without going to episode 3.

If I go to either of the Br* Halls, I am presented with two questions: 

    1. Talk to the Baron/patriarch (about going to Ember Lake under their flag)
    2. Ask for an Ember Log

If I pick (1), then I am directed to the page to purchase Episode 3.  If I pick (2) then it tells me that we have to agree to go to Ember Lake under their flag.  No "Yes/No" page is presented so I assume that I am supposed to ask question (1) and then purchase Episode 3.

Now I am happy to purchase episode 3, but I do not want to end episode 2 until I have done everything that is available.

I must be missing something, but what?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

rbarryyoung - basically, that thread is wrong. Opening Bone Pass is in Episode 3. Neither family will give you the Ember Log until you have agreed to march under their banner.

Hope you are enjoying the game and thanks for your willingness to support us by picking up Episode 3!

You're at a point in the game where very little content can be missed -- it almost all stays open and waits for you to come by when you can. Only the Episode barriers would restrict you now.

Sorry if the post was misleading. Starting episode 3 does a respawn of a lot of episode 2 content. The thread was looking to maximize exp in episode 2 (while starting episode 3 without doing any battles in it) and I included the respawns in it. If you were to maximize episode 2 exp without starting episode 3 then you have to take out all the respawns except the zones separating vrenhaulm and reis lodge and brayshelm, and you can also respawn Gholla without going into episode 3. Doing this would result in a net loss of exp because zones get capped. That said you might be missing 2000ish exp at most if you did it in the wrong order which might translate into 1/4 of a level late game (exp values stop being linear from episode 3 and on, so early exp is of more value to push the arithmetic exp values of those late mobs).
