Yeah way overdo. Read a whole paperback on it. Still a bit lost. Going for wiki online tutorial next. I'll get there. You can teach an old dog new tricks, just takes a little longer

I never realized there were no contacts offering Armor to start out. Glad you mentioned that, I couldn't remember who did. In the old days only the Ex-mercenary, and Retired Zeno Hunter used to offer Combat Armor. Delighted to find out Court Assassin & Judicial Counsel got added to armor vendors. I'm definitely on the look out for a Court Assassin now! Court Assassins also offer missions, edicts, buy intel, & recruit Assassins. Talk about your one stop shop. Wow! Hats off to Trese Brothers.

Does any starting contact actually give rare trade goods? I never got any from the start, only contacts I found later on..

That might be by design. That'd be really really easy to get a strong start with.

Thanks for the replies guys . resistorI kind of thought that was the case. Do any of the factions that start in such a quadrant, or do you have to get lucky with starting contacts outside of your quadrant? drspendloveYes, but the merchant does not give anything else, so it is a useless contact if picked among the first 3. Also you need to build up some wealth to buy a reasonable amount of rare goods and you also need to avoid pirates, which is harder during the first few levels. I would say that balances it out.

If i am trying for a RTG start on a random map, I tend to pick 3 contacts that give access to RTGs, and have one of those contacts in my starting quadrant and the other 2 outside it, so that I get 3 chances to have a contact in a quadrant with RTGs.

... resistor I kind of thought that was the case. Do any of the factions that start in such a quadrant, or do you have to get lucky with starting contacts outside of your quadrant?... It is possible for the starting quadrant to have rare trade goods. It depends on your starting faction and map seed.
