Do larger weapons have longer lasting Crippling effects? (A quick test - Large to Medium Grav cannon - implies, “Yes.) Yes. Also have larger Critical Dmg multiplier.

If you do not intend to add more ranges to ship combat - what about changing the way long range weaponry works: E.g. torpedoes and missiles that are fired at range 5 dont hit the turn they are fired but the turn after. That would negate the early debuff issue and the opposing ship would have a higher chance for their small craft to shoot torps or missiles down at the beginning of a battle. As a sideeffect there would be no more reason for stacking electronics/pilot but only navigation instead (when considering strong dice) for peaceful captains who just want to escape from ship combat at turn 1. But maybe this is just a bad idea

dewitt thanks for the suggestion, but we aren't making any major changes to the way combat works like making weapons take multiple turns to hit.

Regarding weaknesses of fighters: i just had two interdictors miss the opposing 9k mass ship with 300 Hull left and 15 debuffs. (roughly)
That's not only a huge flavor fail but also makes fighters a lot worse for dedicated ship combat imo. They miss far more often than conventional weaponry unless you hard spam hit chance Talents. Conventional weaponry needs some initial buffs but once some modules are dead, they hit almost 100% with enough dice. You can focus on whatever talents are more useful then.

Most really challenging fights are won in the first couple of turns, even if they take much longer to complete. When facing a really challenging enemy, building a +defense buff stack while keeping them from doing the same thing is huge. I think that’s a really good point. Not good for Bombers and Commandos, but it makes me eye Interdictors more favorably.

After a lot of testing and consideration, this has been put into place for all ranges.
