In the selection description of Cadar Syndicate is mentioned that they often oppose the De Valtos Syndicate and Steel Song. I'm curious if the other factions also have favored enemies or rather only random with possible snowball effect, e.g. starting with a rather harmless trade ban turning later into a solar war.

There are certain combinations that are more and less likely, yes.

Ah, c'mon, more details, please! Knowing the rivals would help choosing the right faction to start with. I haven't played the game long enough yet to recognize some schemes, but I think such rivalties should be long known among houses and syndicates thus part of the lore.
I think I'm already fine against drug cartel and pirates as Cadar.

Contact links are also very impactful on causing conflicts.

According to my own test starting dozens of Cadar captains on the default map, Steel Song was hardly in a Trade Ban and most of the time in an Alliance with Cadar at game start. A similar result showed with De Valtos. That was absolutely no confirming check to reveal anything about Cadar’s rivals. I guess that indeed player actions and a lot of randomness makes sure that no conflicts develop in the same fashion for each game session. I think the best is to rather pick whatever starting-faction crew traits are most appealing to the captain’s job and either just roll with the conflict flow or manipulate it in own favour.
