Players new and old are sometimes surprised when a crew person dies. Of course it's always good to keep an eye on the scrolling events log...
but have you thought of a flashing alert, such as temporarily flashing the Crew 'status' in the dashboard to red for a few seconds, or even a skull/crossbones overlay on the main screen when a crew person dies.
