To be themed with the engineer while also making direct shot worth investing in, what do you think about an on-hit self-buff of +5 Max Heat per talent point invested in Direct Shot, up to a total of +45 max heat at level 10 of the talent? The proposed buff would last 3 turns.

Alternatively, what if we took this in a different direction? What if Direct Shot was a debuffing attack that gave 1% critical vulnerability per talent level? This would probably require that the base level apply a 1% critical vulnerability, making it a small buff to any battleforce even without investment. Critical hits from engineer pistols aren't likely to be a huge deal so I don't think it makes the Engineer a solo-combatant, which is something we should probably aim to avoid anyway.
Another alternative, but one that might require a rename: what if direct shot lowered Plasma Res? I don't think we have anything in the game that does that right now. It would be entirely useless for an engineer on its own but it could pair well with various uncommon builds (and the common build of a captain with a plasma pistol.)
