Swami - because they heard you coming and are in waiting? You failed to be Stealthy. drekx - I find that in my Stealth turns I am never able to get 100% of my AP to attack. The enemy is always at a distance. I usually move forward with Vraes or with Tamilin, sometimes one square at a time, until I can see the enemy. Then I look at the terrain I can see and choose how to deploy so that I can have the best line of site and control over the upcoming fight. Usually, Kjartan (if you're using him) and Tamilin spend a few AP pegging the first enemies we can see or dropping some Curses. This is a little harder with Vincent and his limited range. If you're a Farsight user, then you may drop a FS on Tamilin's first turn, or have used it before the combat started and have a lot more info on the enemy's deployment. fallen but see that's why I don't really use stealth, if I go 2nd then the monsters tend to be the ones spending AP on moving getting 1-2 attacks each one on me if they get to attack at all. Then I get my turn and within that turn I can use almost all my AP on attacks and I'm able to take out one or two attackers early game and late game sometimes like 4-6 monsters in that one turn. Even if I'm careful and try to maximize things on that 1st turn when I go first I can't get that effect so it's just more effective to go 2nd than 1st.

drekx - that's great - both are very viable strategies. Playing on a harder difficulty, I like to "get the jump" when I can and get ready for the fight and soften them up. Great to see that there are lots of ways to play! I'm sure we use different Talents too!

Well, I've started up a new Normal party to fix some of the bad talent choices I made for my Episode 2 scout run and noticed that most of the encounters in the Deeps do *not* charge forward, but wait on me to move up into engagement range (i.e. - close enough to move up and hit me) or until I tag the mob with something. Tres annoying.

algesan - I'd recommend an update to the latest version of HoS (v1.1.31).

Like drekx I tend to use the first round to buff my party and force enemies into walking and spend their AP to come nearer. So I tend not to use stealth and buff related to it.

I actually find acting first to be a disadvantage. If I move forward a few steps, thats a few extra hits the enemies get on me. Sure, I may be able to get stone skin up, but its hardly worth the trade. If I go second its much better, everyone is in range, often bunched together for my area of effect spells and so my characters can get even more attacks. I'd like to see this reworked because right now I think stealth is actually very bad. I do not use far sight though, so maybe that would help, but really my rogue doesn't have near enough SP's to just burn willy nilly anyway.

Seems like there are two camps among the players.
I always lead with the Thief, use Farsight and Black Night, raised Stealth skill, and specifically equip gear to insure that I always win Stealth.
There is still work to do in the Thief's subsystems, so we will keep looking.

I don't even know how you have the SP's for that. My thief runs out just using her special bow attack that takes like 5 SP's or something like that. Also, when ever I lead without the Barbarian I end up getting a game over when I get mobbed, so I don't even bother. But, if it works for some people I guess it works, it just doesn't work for me.
