I play Star Trader Elite on my Samsung Galaxy S4. Being an old school gamer, it reminds me a lot of Master of Orion and few other pen and paper RPG games I used to play. It is great for passing time on the subway every day going to/from work.
I know few other enthusiasts have created various maps already. However they are not helpful for someone like me who play while commuting. When I select contracts to take, one of my major criteria is the relative locations to other contracts I have or where I plan to go (ie. an Alien location). Is there anyway we can do contract selection directly on a map? I don't mind touching the location to see what contracts are there and then going back to the map screen after.
Another lesser suggestion: can I choose the aggressiveness in route selection? Current automatic route selection seems to be going the long safe way. However I rather have an option that I can force the AI to go thru deep space.

Might want to post this in the actual Star Traders game forums, not the Cyber Knights area of the forums fallen - want to move this over for him?

Moved, thanks Alex Fury. hlo - the route will take you through deep space if it is significantly shorter.

My apology for posting in the wrong place.... After signing up and all that I must have got dumped in the wrong place.
I don't mind moving through deep space, the Mechanical Officer usually fix up most of the damages for me. I rather do repair than dealing with running out of supply. When you see 15AU to contract location, you figure 30 supply will do the trick. However the next thing you know it is taking the long way and you have to scramble for re-supply. Depending on what else in at the planet, it may take few tries before you can land. That few tries may translate to another 10 supply.
Contracts selection from a map based user interface will be very good.

hlo - thanks for the suggestions, we've taken notes on them. I don't think that we will add a different route-planner to the map ... if you are looking at a transit and suspect that the navigator will take a bad route, I'd suggest breaking it up into a few smaller taps.

I would like to add my support for the idea of seeing map locations for potential contracts. Try as I might, I am unable to wrap my head around the coordinate system. Like the OP, I typically play on a phone with no access to a second device for viewing third party maps. With the current system it is very difficult for me to determine where a contract might take me.

I find that it helps to pay close attention to how many AUs and whether coordinates are positive or negative. If I took a 5au contract and my coordinates are (#,-#), I'd look for more contracts with a (#,-#) that aren't more than maybe an additional 10aus away (to a max of like #, -#+15aus). Anymore than that, I'll be looking for a great pay bonus.

The coordinate system is very confusing compared to a normal Cartesian (X, Y) system, and I was a former surveyor as well but still cannot get used to it. If we cannot fit then map into a phone device properly, can we have the contracts from the planet shown in a sortable list. Make the sorting customizable. Here are what I think the sorting should be: coordinates, AU distance, Factions that may attempt to stop us. Looking at some of the unlocks, it will be impossible for some of our playing style to achieve some the contract related challenge. Unless it is very early in the game, I generally will side with certain factions so I won't take certain contracts. I may reject 1st offer but then change my mind after accepting the 4th offer (pays good $). Since 4th one is in the vicinity of the 1st one, I like to re-accept the first one but I cannot.

More reasons for Contract selection from a list as opposed to the current way: - Another benefit to a list as opposed to one at a time contract assignment: players can keep themselves away from bounty hunting contracts if they want. Honestly bounty hunting is dangerous at low levels with the startup ships regardless of difficulty settings. You may survive the fight but have no $$ to repair the damages. Until you can buy / takeover a better ship, bounty hunting is suicidal. (Maybe the player should not have them until they buy the "Death Warrant".
- Any long range ( > 10 AU) will only be hazardous early in the game. Some startup ships have small cargo and the distance between stops are too far apart. It will be less dangerous if you have another contract along the way. However there is no way to do it under the current contract assignment without rejecting some contracts.
- Forced combat (ie Bounty Hunting) is no job for the Explorers and Traders playing style. They may have to face pirates etc but you can try Ignore or escape. You cannot run if you are stuck with a contract.

As for the look of the Contract List: Use the "Rumors List" format. Just show the coordinates [X, Y]. Use checkboxes to allow multiple select, with some logic to make sure no one can select more than allowed by Shalun Law! Forget the sorting for now, we can sort by scrolling up and down.

Thanks, I've added #ST-2385 to take a look at this one. Thanks!

I don't have any issue with navigating via Astronomical Units, but it would be nice to use the coordinates in the manner suggested
