Star Traders RPG Elite has been on the market for almost 3 weeks!
The most important thing for small independent game developers is our Android Market Rating.
If you can, please take a moment and leave a 5 star comment on Star Traders RPG Elite. If you think 5 Stars is too much, I'd love to hear how far you feel we have to go!
Can't tell you how much everyone's support, suggestions and feedback mean to us -- and how it keeps us motivated to improve ST RPG and make the next game even better!

Since you asked i rated it 5 stars, altough 4 stars may be more right as the game is not perfect. But meh, who cares about such little details... 8)

That is a good point, Mr. Fire. I know the game itself isn't perfect and I know it could be a lot better. I guess I ask that you temporarily leave a 5 star rating, contingent on major improvements being made weekly. Please don't worry that leaving a 5 star review will make me lazy or think it is finished -- because it won't! Or, put another way -- as special request for Forum readers, I'm asking that you consider the entire experience. I hope you feel that we've been delivering 6 Star service while trying to improve our 4 Star game. And that averages out to about 5 Stars! =) PS: How often do you have a chance to read Angry Birds fiction to supplement the game?

You have mine in, but I would recommend sprucing up your homepage. The initial impression counts for a lot and there are still some outdated screenshots present. Also look at making sure the manual is always up to date.

Thanks man, I'm updating the screenshots and looking around for a new web page layout.
The documentation update I asked Andrew to look at. I need a break from debugging this Awards/Medals code anyway!

Definitely read the Google blogs if you are an Android Developer. I have huge respect for Rovio and they're clearly about 10,000% better at this than I am =) I just can't bring myself to build applications that require permissions or use ads. I know that's the way the market is going but I will probably be left behind. This was one of my favorite reads this week from Google Blogs android-developers.blogspot.com/2010/12/new-gingerbread-api-strictmode.htmlI love the Android Cop -- totally awesome.

Im a wordpress guy when it comes to cms and layouts. You may want to factor in a wiki in the future, if you guys end up taking this far enough to have enough content that a wiki is worth while. Can't hurt. I definitely think this is a 5 star game. Sure it could have more, but its brand spanking new, and its a mobile game at that. You should see some of the junk on the market. The best thing about it by far is what is available for you at no cost compared to the limitations of a lot of the free versions of these things. I recommend getting some more presence on the web since the game is somewhere in the middle of the sea of apps and coming across it is almost by chance.

Thanks. I'm working hours daily to try to raise the game from a 4 Star level to 5 Stars.
I really do appreciate you lending me the extra star while I get in gear.
Even more than the extra Star, I REALLY appreciate the advice and help.
I am afraid that without your feedback I wouldn't know how to build a 5 Star version of ST RPG.

I have had the game rated 5 stars for a while now. Hands down no other dev team is as dedicated, open to feedback, nice or just plain interested in the end user. This game was great back when i first picked it up.( v 1.?) Now i have elite, bugs are fixed faster than i can find them and new content keeps coming WEEKLY! 4 star game with 6 star potential... couple that with an 8 star dev team and i'd say you earned my 5 stars and then some!

Well we gave it a good run!
Unfortunately enough 1 and 3 Star reviews have come in that the game is falling in the rankings.
I really appreciate everyone who went out of the way to go back to the Market and leave us favorable comments ad 5 Star Reviews.
Please keep the comments, questions and suggestions coming -- they are much appreciated and we work to incorporate as many as we possibly can.

What I do notice is when I check the Market and click on the Games tab. I usually see Star Traders RPG present after one to two scrolls down in the Top Paid Games list for All Games and in the Arcade & Action category. So when a customer is looking for games, they are not needing to search for it. Now if you know how to get it on the Featured screen or that rolodex thing they have at the top you will get better exposure.
What is the market's criteria for item placement anyway?

The trick seems to be having a well rated paid game with a Related Link to the free version.
If the game was good enough to keep a 5 star rating for Elite then the link for Free would be very popular and more people would play.
The free complete RPG edition may reduce our overall sales but hopefully it will be offset by people who consider the independent game developer and a free game worth a 5 star rating.
For raw numbers, every 0.1 of a Star average gained translates into hundreds of downloads of Free. Having a 5 star rating on Elite really did a great job of driving the downloads of RPG even though our purchase rate was much lower than other applications in that category.
edit: and with any marketing effort, a lot of psychology is playing a role. When we posted as 5 star our 5 star to 4 star ratio was hugely in favor of 5 stars but once we dropped to 4 the number balanced out to about 50:50 vs. the previous 80:20. I have read that whatever rating you have at 500 stars the game will keep for good unless you really screw up somehow.

Not only does this game have the potential to become AWESOME, I feel like you are truly DOPE as an admin/dev. Can I give six stars...awww :/ Keep up the good work mate
