I was playing a different pirate game and realized the battle system in it, while very similar to AoP, is a bit more enjoyable than AoP because the descriptions aren't real informative. I think maybe describing the combat a bit more would be a bit cool instead of "You hit his hull for 8 points of damage".
Or maybe boarding combat could have a bit more interaction... having your captain lead the boarding party could boost morale at the cost of more potential damage, whereas having the captain stay behind hinders morale but keeps him safe.
But more description would be cooler.
