I know matrix armor helps you hack, I have used it before. However what exactly does it do to help you hack?

I think it might protect you from taking damage from the data terminals security. Not really sure though.

I have armor 4 and 5, using it or not doesn't seem to matter while hacking.

Armor increases your ability to withstand HP / MP damage if you are crashed off a system.
It is very opaque right now. We will keep working on it.

I understand the MP damage part, but why would HP suffer?

nickalc - because if you brain is fried hard enough, it hurts your body. Truly deadly Matrix systems can kill hackers.

I disagree. The brain part is why we have HP and MP seperate. You should make it that, when lower than certain MP, HP suffers.
And I really like the setting that you guys make, 0 MP kills; in other sword & magic RPG games, 0 MP should require at least a rest.

nickalc - glad you enjoy the setting. We can agree to disagree. Matrix Hosts can cause both physical and mental damage. They can deploy lethal countermeasures.

nickalc You loose HP when you neurons starts to deteriorate badly ; for example, when you catch a cold, the fever starts to remove slowly your MPs, but nothing deadly, except if it get too bad ; then, the heat inside your head literally cooks your brain and your neurons' protein just melt, destroying themselves and your thoughts in the process (just like a bullet would do). That would be treated as HP damage in CK and that's how lethal countermeasures works. I hope it makes it clearer to you.

Thanks for the clarification, but this is exactly what I meant. The brain got attacked, MP lowered; when down to certain dangerous level, the attack takes away HP; and at this stage, it should damage HP rapidly.
Further, a critical attack (maybe 150% or 200%) on MP should kill or disable the target immediately.

If the attack causes an effect like a grand mal seizure, it could definitely cause physical damage. Muscles spasms can rip muscles and tendons, and even dislocate joints. Thrashing around could result in blunt force trauma to various body parts.

I'm also thinking, your cyber computer can get burnt, and since its bonded to your brain, physical damage must occur... Scary. I want my matrix armor 10 now. What if i happen to download a virus i uploaded?!

How does the armor work? I bought the 5 armor program from the Yaka backroom computer dealer. If I install it does it just work all the time or does it only last for a limited time? Does it go away if I get a new computer?

Since the biofeedback loop created by deadly counter measures turns you brain against your body, it can cause devastating physical injuries.
Enough feedback can burst major arteries, damage heart valves, use the hacker's muscles to break bones, shred cartilage, shatter teeth and decimate soft tissue.
That's why HP damage is part of hacking.
