So, in a very short time, admittedly on Normal, I have brought a Hacker to the point where he can just rake in ¥ and win / flee any hostile encounter he comes into contact with. So what's next? Is this it?

readyready15728 - have you played the Made, Not Born story? Try a different class, or increase the difficulty level. The game is a sandbox, so there is no win condition.

I tried that scenario at first to learn the ropes but never completed it. I imagine this is a huge and possibly unreasonable request but I'd like there to be a way to win after some fashion, perhaps the Knight can pay / muscle his or her way into the upper class world and retire, maybe become immortal through cyborgification, or maybe be able to go to Chicago and beyond (e.g. Tokyo), or even some kind of off-world Shangri-la ... numerous possibilities are imaginable.

Is this it? It happens to me on a regular basis. At that point I usually start another and : 1) Change difficulty 2) Change profession 3) Change my attack (i.e : getting from firearms to gloves/club) and thus changing my whole team building 4) Change my personal objectives (i.e : climbing blue ox ladder first, being in high rep with az-tek, etc) 5) Playing another TB game and get back to CK latter 6) Hanging around in the forum

Great post beuns. The game is so totally different on Impossible that I feel like saying "I'm done, playing Normal" is robbing yourself of the really exciting parts of the game. ---- Thanks for posting readyready15728 great to have you prowling the NBZ and posting on the forum. CK is setup as an "endless RPG" which will let you keep playing, building and setting records for as long as you want. It would be well suited to a ladder system that would allow you to compete against other players and establish yourself as upper-class king =)

Is this it? Up the difficulty. You may think you understand the game mechanics until you get crushed half a dozen times in Hard and realize that Normal lets you get away with fast-tracking your Knight instead of making you claw your way up (or so I realized now that I'm struggling through Crazy). Oh, and what beuns said about climbing different ladders and professions. They really do make a bigger difference on higher difficulties.

I think whats on the OP's mind is an optional out reminiscent of choose your own adventure books. Its not very graphically intensive, perhaps consisting of a title card, but at some point when your character reaches a high enough level he/she can option out for an ending exposition. Just a paragraph or two about what the character went on to do from there, a "happily ever after"text that can be based on their character, profession, faction rankings, preferred jobs, ect. Its still a sandbox because its just an option, but your character could start a new faction, climb to the top of an existing one, get bumped off, move to a new zone, ect. Just a thought.

How about something like the terrible "happy ending" in the theatrical release of Blade Runner?

I like the idea of being able to retire your knight. Then maybe have a system to start a new character as a protege of your old knight.

Thanks, its a great idea and I have added it to the long list of CK enhancements. We'll keep working on the highest priority items atm tho! Great suggestion

I was confused too, about the sandbox mode. I thought that sandbox only applies to multiplayers and mmo game types. Boring grind and a bit satisfying wise equipment shoping is rewarded by how well you can pvp. And pvp is the juicy fruit of your online work, where the fun is.
Played alot of single player games. And almost non of them had sandbox mode only.
I think developers released their game being sure that it will start to earn them money. But single player games with sandbox only gets very boring and unplayable on early stages.
Don't know any good game with single player and sandbox only, its either supported by online fun or decent story, to be playable.

nekoii The genre that the first trese brothers' game, star traders rpg, is part of are typically sandbox single player or sandbox after an initial storyline. It is niche, but some of us like that. It's about setting your own goals within the game and having a game without rails. Myself, I'm a masochist that enjoys playing at max difficulty with the goal of how long can I survive. That said. fallen. I really like the idea of adding in an optional choose-your-own-adventure ending + retirement system Being added into cyber knights. I really loved those kind of books as a kid. I don't know how hard it would be to implement, but I've been thinking about this. Could start with a table of options: falls in love with an android, retires to a nice apt, ends up in a gutter...whatever. And then The next reload of the game you get an option for a weighted quickstart, based on how many credits your retired knight has. When he got out of the game maybe s/he decided to kickstart an up and commer. Would also make it less painful for long time players to try out a new class.

More specifically, will we be able to start our own factions (in 1 or 2)? That has been of interest to me and I see someone else has thought about it too.
