no AA, we're talking distributed game master functionality in this game. Because of the issues with a single game master (voice of consensus), we need to support redundancy of function. That means if you are answering a question, you need to be GM for the next round

That means if you are answering a question, you need to be GM for the next round Hi Puss. There are some people who do not feel comfortable in the GM seat. It would be nice for those forum members to be able to opt' out, and someone else take the post over. That way, EVERYONE can take part, without restrictions. I think that would be nice and fair. This is only a test phase, so we can put our collective "thinking caps" on and throw a few ideas around, (when we're not throwing Cory). As you said, "voice of consensus".

Haha ... I had just made that rule up - not checked with anyone about accuracy or validity - in fact, I should have said that not only do you have to be distributed GM, but you also have to wear a pointed hat, and have glasses ... oh , and probably a nice oiled beard too.

If you're typing you have to come up with a lot of wasted detail, as the coin flip mechanism, with the live participants, uses a very small version of the scenario. The roll is easy, but the detail given to each roll is not worth the return, to me.
We need simpler, and quicker.

If the forum game does start to get played, can it go to a new thread and start fresh and with a short explanation of the game to encourage new players to hop in?

If the forum game does start to get played, can it go to a new thread and start fresh and with a short explanation of the game to encourage new players to hop in? Don't see why not. In fact that would be great. Almost like your "pen and paper days", Fallen. I only proposed an idea. Getting something workable is the hard part. As fallen said in another post, and qbspy is echoing now... "Let's keep it simple".

In France we have a game called "Once upon a time". There are rules and all, but in fact, the purpose is to make a story over all participants. (I realize it may not be clear...)
Let say, I start the story by saying a few phrases (example : it's in bar, at night. The bar is almost empty and a guy is speaking to the barman. And suddenly...) and I let the next participant continue the story from here to wherever he wants to go (example : a cat jump on the bar and start chasing a mouse. The cat spill over every drink around. The guy at the bar yell :"slayernz ! Stop that !" And suddenly...).
That's simple and it can be very fun IMO.
Thoughts ?

And then a sheep walks into the bar and asks "Do you need any wool?"

beuns that game is quite similar to the format i've toyed with. The coin flip introduces some chaos, or control really, since if we just said things, it wouldn't be a game. Sorta. I don't know. If anyone's reading try to play to see if it's workable. I figure instead of 3 options, let's try two. Deus rotates. Put as much detail as you want into the scenario, remembering that if it's a fluid game you won't be responsible for it all. Deus lays out scenario. First responder chooses a path. Anyone can flip for the responder, try to actually flip, and not just make up the result. The responder (now deus) continues the scenario, being faithful to the result of the roll. New responder chooses a path. And on...

You've never really liked it at your grandma's farm. It's a quiet place. She raises chicken, and cattle. Corn is growing this year in the surrounding fields. You make your way towards the nearby woods, hoping to elude any chores, and think about what you ought to do for fun. At the forest's edge, you begin to wade through the tall brush, and soft ground. A suitable looking walking stick lies on the ground near a briar patch. Chipmunks dart by at the sound of your presence. Should you,
A. Stoop down and claim the walking stick?
B. Chase the small creatures deeper into the woodland.
If you choose A, you'll either claim a middling walking stick, or you'll snag your arm painfully on the briar bush.
If you choose B, you'll either run a good distance losing track of the chipmunks, or you'll disturb a sleeping boar in your goofy dash.

I vigorously chased the small creatures into the forest.

Thankful for the privacy of the woodland, you gleefully dash after the diminutive chipmunks. In your loud, blind dash, a sleeping boar is aroused at your 8. The boar hasn't eaten in twelve hours, and his happy slumber is far from his mind as he begins his stalk. You're in danger. Oblivious you chuckle at the seeming cowardice of the small creatures you ran off. You spot a discarded milk jug off to your right, as you catch your breath. A noise is heard somewhere behind you. Should you,
A. Peer about and investigate the source of the noise?
B. Attempt to climb a nearby tree to plot out your next destination?
If you choose A, you'll either notice a boar closing in on your position, or you'll be struck as you look, by the high velocity pig.
If you choose B, you'll either make it up into the tree and survey a portion of the forest, or you'll fruitlessly jump about the tree, making no progess on climbing it.
Sorry for the sock. Just trying to test this out.
