IF anything, this poll and subsequent discussion suggests that the 8 characters that we have in our parties are remarkably well balanced. They each have some pretty strong offensive and defensive capabilities, meaning that the outcomes are not certain when going head to head. That is, every character except poor shifty eyes. KJ seems to be painted as the true underdog against Vincent. Maybe KJ's extra range, and powerful single target attack spell might actually be more effective against ole Sparky.

slayernz - I cast my vote on Kjartan for those two reasons for sure. He has mighty DPS ... Choking Ash the sorcerer to almost no Armor and then release 2 x FBs. Hope to survive the round

As slayernz states, there's more balance here than I expected. Nice to see some love for Tami, almost everyone taking about their builds seems to exclude her. Her ranged attacks have allowed me to take advantage of some great choke points across the various maps

mataeus the reason you don't see tam in a lot of builds is because selen covers 2 important curse gaps that you may encounter when mixing and matching characters as well as having quicksilver defense. Tam is fun and can be an absolute monster with DI 10 + Ranged onslaught, but she does one thing and 1 thing only.

That 1 thing is probably one of the most important functions for me though. I already have a tank in Vraes (less so with Kincaid). I need someone who can consistently pick off the enemies that don't come up to play (usually with choke points, once one inconsiderate enemy blocks the point, the others juts sit around in a lazy sort of fashion).
Tami slaughters those with ease. KJ also adds to the kills because of his Range 6 abilities. There have been countless times where Vincent has just sat on the sidelines because the opposition refuses to come and get close enough for him to be able to hit. I think it must be because he's near-sighted and refuses to get glasses. Vincent - you'd look distinguished with glasses - and maybe you'll be able to hit things further out.
Also, for those who have used Tami - have you used her stabby stabby function (Torrent of steel)? I'm sure that it must be okay ... she knows how to hurt things in Melee - just chooses not to do it because, let's face it, it might get blood on her clothes.

And she does that one thing insanely good.

It's true that if people are relying on choke points all the time, Vincent is not the best character. Vincent is best with "run-up" groups, who discover a group of enemies and then sprint to catch them while they're all still grouped together. To do that you have to figure out how to build an amazing tank or two and probably have a good AP, damage or accuracy suppressing curse. If you can do that, Vincent is incredible. There is a place for falling back to a choke-point, but it shouldn't be the strategy for every run-of-the-mill fight.
In this thread I actually voted for Vincent because of his curse abilities, not so much because of his offensive abilities. Flash Freeze and Frigid Air, would really shut KJ down.
An interesting idea in this thread, or in a new one, would be to ask people how they would build these characters to go head-to-head if they each had 20 talent points to spend.
