Hi. I just started this game today. I like it so far, but I keep failing capture missions even though I'm winning the battle without destroying the enemy ship. I must be missing something, but I can't figure out what. Any help?

kev1nj - how do you exit the after-combat screen? Are you seeing a option that is bold? What device and version are you playing on?

Playing on an android phone. Elite version, up to date (downloaded yesterday). I didn't notice a bold option, I just loot the cargo then salvage the ship. I wonder if salvaging the ship is the problem? Does that count as destroying it, hence failing the capture conditions?

I win by shooting out engines which sometimes results in no engines and sometimes in a wounded enemy captain.

kev1nj - in these situations, always look for the button with bold text. If it is there, it is a clear indicator of a mission requirement.

In the case of Capture missions in Star Traders RPG, you cannot take the Salvage bonus and still complete the Contract.
In the case of Destroy missions, you can take Salvage (are in fact, required to take it.)

I wonder if salvaging the ship is the problem? Does that count as destroying it, hence failing the capture conditions? Hi Kev1nj - welcome to the forum!!! As Cory has indicated, don't Salvage the ship after you finish looting it. What you do is exit the victory screen and your mission is complete. There was a change a while back where a button named "Destroy" was renamed "Salvage". I personally liked Destroy as it told you exactly what was going to happen to the ship and crew, but Salvage helped some people understand that you weren't just taking a couple of bits of debris to the scrap markets. Instead, you were selling the whole ship (Sanitized of people, goods, identification markers, personal decorations, and toothpaste) to the back-room salvage operators. They pay shillings to the dollar, so you get next to nothing back, but you don't get the headache of thousands of people seeking revenge on you. So ... rule of the Capture contract - don't press "Salvage" In all other situations - feel free to kill
