I don't mean the subject matter, I mean it is literally difficult to see. This is more of a problem on my phone (Galaxy S3), but even on my Kindle fire I prefer to play with the brightness turned all the way up, rather than auto. Even with that, it's not playable on my phone outdoors on a sunny day in the shade. I think the TB are trying to turn us all into pale nerds. There is also the issue of battery drain from having the brightness up. Still my favorite game evar. I just want to be able to play it in all possible environments. Side note, I was expecting a dramatic difference in the look and a brighter look overall when I got to the surface. I was a little disappointed that it looked pretty much the same as underground.

I don't know of any device with active backlight, that is usable outdoors on a sunny day. Even in the shade. My tablet have very bright backlight (on max settings), but even then it is difficult to see the screen. And this is no different for any application. Even for navigator, which by its very nature have extremely contrast (and very bright) graphics.

I play indoors because when I play outdoors, I end up zooming in to maximum, and stare at my screen from 3 inches away - makes me look like a really old man The active area of the map is fine, but it's the fog of war areas that you can't see. So if you are trying to navigate your way through a large map, trying to see where you want to go is a real challenge in daylight. It's important to have the FOW, but for me it's a little aggressive on the dimness.

anrdaemon I use all kinds of other apps and games outside on a sunny day with minimal problems. Sure, it can be hard to read small text with low contrast at times, but generally not much of an issue. As slayernz says, it is very difficult to distinguish dimmed parts of the map from blackness. I have a hard time locating a campsite in an already explored area. I have mobs in the shadows that I don't see and then I get killed. It's just not worth it for me to play it outdoors.

I agree. The game is a bit too dark, especially in areas of the explored dungeon area outside of your party's brighter 'presence' aura. You can usually make out the basic wall structure but the details or terrain features get lost in the dimness at times. Perhaps a toggle option or just brightening it up a bit across the board. I mostly play it on PC at night these days, away from the sun and it is still too dark.

Thanks for the feedback all, perhaps we could lighten the source art a bit. Lighter shades of gray or something.

Ooo 50 shades of grey lighter? I know I know ... bad joke. As I play mostly inside, I can live with the dark FOW ... it's low priority to fix compared to other enhancements

With a soft touch of red, everything is better!

Thanks for the feedback all, perhaps we could lighten the source art a bit. Lighter shades of gray or something. Only a little bit please. I prefer my games to be very, very dark.

That's always the challenge - finding that spot right in the middle of where everyone thinks is "perfect". Unfortunately we often have a situation where the darkest light people like is still lighter than the lightest dark people like We need a torch.

fallen would it be possible to add a contrast slider to the game under options as a solution to this?

CdrPlatypus - its possible, but I don't see any easy ways to do this.

fallen, can you somehow make the tablet absorb all of the ambient light around the player, so they are effectively playing in their own gloom-shroud. That way, it would be like playing indoors, and the contrast would be just about perfect.

I'm sure that wouldn't be too permission heavy...

slayernz - I think I'll just create dark matter and beam it to your tablet through the internets ... That should take care of it?
