I am in the planning stages of starting another serious run at the Nightmare Ironman and I am stuck at which healing character to choose, so I am turning to all of you for input. On the one hand Kyera has Sacrifice and purifying breeze (EA is not a factor for this group) on the other hand Fyona is tougher and has righteous fervor and blessed aura. What do you guys think?

Oh that's tough - I love both of these two characters. Kyera offers not only sacrifice, but also Banishment and Holy Retribution as very effective ranged damage. I'm a person who loves ranged attacks if there is a possibility of doing so.
Myshana's Tears is very effective on healing a single person, but Fyona' Blessed Aura is probably more effective if you're not using Vraes as a pure tank.
Fyona's abilities with Zealous Strikes, means she deals some pretty awesome melee damage. I haven't really invested much in Consecrated Defense though, and to be honest, need to test Fyona out as much as I have Kyera.
All in all though, If I had Vraes, I'd probably go for Kyera for her ranged attacks, and strong healing ability. If I had Kincaid, I'd go Fyona for her ability to semi-tank and provide good team buffs.

I can't stand how much my Fyona uses AP. I'm wielding a three AP two hander, I can barely move and attack or attack and heal. I'm well aware that I can use a two AP one handed hammer, but it didn't give me the damage I want. The four AP curse remove is also ridiculous even if the hell is potent.
I much prefer Kyera, the amount of accuracy you get from banishment. She also gets two ranged skills, and can remove multiple curses. I also like warder's shield more than SoC since I generally kill the melee enemies as soon as they're in range, while the ranged take a bit longer to widdle down.
I think the main question is how much non physical damage are you relying on? And how many characters so you feel safe putting in melee range?

bowuserthing I have used Fyona successfully with a 2-handed hammer. It works if you use a let them come to you strategy. Especially if you position her to the side of a door in redhill keep with your main tank directly in front of the door opening: I like to call this strategy the Jehovah: "excuse me sir do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior Cortais?!" But yeah she is AP heavy I view her as a bulldozer, slow, steady, and powerful. P.S. I appreciate everyone's feedback keep it coming

Option C. It depends on the rest of the group.
If you are running Selen as primary off tank I would say Kyera. Tears, Sacrifice, decent ranged abilities, plus Warder's Shield make her perfect for support if you don't need an off tank.
If you needed a second tank, Fyona is the natural choice. I'm still a huge fan of Strickening, and it's really becoming my new favorite curse. It allows you to finally utilize that damage gear, and acts as a perfect counterpoint to Ash, allowing almost full removal of enemy defenses. Aside from this, SoC and Blessed Aura suit a closer range combat group, so she is useful when combined with Vincent's short range, allowing him to be within the heal radius more often. SoC also pairs well with Frigid Air, defending against both ranged and melee damage.
It all boils down to the rest of your group, but my vote goes to Fyona, she's awesome.

Your dangerously close to playing my Vicinity of Obscenity build, I can feel it This group needs Fyona. Using Selen as PS almost forces you to go with Fy here, seeing that you won't have much of an off tank imo with Kyera

En1gma If I use Fyona sadly I will be focusing on her group defensive abilities long before holy strickening. If anything that might be an investment in E3

Yeah, with these two it's not an easy call and I think it all depends on inter-group dynamics. I don't have a de facto mystic, like I do my rogue (well almost). For me, AP doinkage is huge, and having ranged -AP curses are really important in the Underforge. I could see the argument for going with Kyera because you've already got -1AP from Selen so you wouldn't even need to add any more to Ethereal Anguish. You could focus on some other skills for Kyera like Warder's shield and her melee attack. I think she can make a decent off-tank but not a great second tank. With Fyona on the other hand, you've got SoC and her armor boosting spell which can give some really nice defensive boost, plus she can become a great second tank (maybe not till late E2 though). Me melee group is really showing me how nice it is to have two or three equal front line fighters.

You can't really compare them, can you? Entirely different classes with different benefits brought to the group.

The choice is not dependent on them alone. You have to consider whole group, not each of the characters separately.

I completely agree with these statements. Fyona just seems crazy AP inefficient. I always find myself being able to do what I need to do with Kyera though. 2 AP for EA, 3 for MT, sacrifice is just 1 AP as long as you leave it at lvl 2. Her high AP cost items are her ranged attack talents, but I never feel like I'm wasting half a turn like I do with Fyona. Also, if you're running Kincaid ironman, Warder's Shield takes the cake with the bonus dodge.

I love Fyona strictly because she can be an offtank. Kyera is just too squishy to do any good. But dependING on the group, they are both awesome In their own ways
