Ok I have to ask, why do people dislike the steel song clan so much?

slayernz had a bad run-in with them when he started. I don't know about everyone else, but it doesn't help that their planets are in the middle of nowhere. I actually LIKE Steel Song. They're awesome for bounty hunters, Zealots and anyone who likes boarding (everything slayernz hates, really... lol).

hissrad, you'll find that overall, there are supporters of all of the factions in ST - I am probably just the most vocal when it comes to Steel Song. In reality, I don't ALWAYS go and shoot them down and get -ve RP. On the odd occasion, I've actually gone and worked with them in order to achieve a particular objective. Are they good for anything? No. Are there valid reasons for me trying to eliminate their butts? I'd argue that there are, but those arguments are decidedly flimsy ... At the end of the day though, what I like about ST is that there seems to be different personalities for each of the different factions. They might not actually be reflected in all aspects of game play, but because we've been around for so long, we've built up pretty good back stories on each faction, and that makes the game even more fun Oh oh oh ... you'll also wonder why Cadar loves torps so much ... or why Rychart is really into hats ... or why Devaltos would sell their family for even a small profit ... and they are good questions all

Oh I like them well enough, there planets are in nice spots for blockading though. You can hang out near the syndicate core, fly over, blockade or spy till your almost out of fuel and fly back easily enough. Now the ones that I really don't like is Rychart. They always seem to be messing with me, trade embargoes on Javat and Thulun...

I mean I'm curious to know what the inside joke is about Rychart hats. And what gives Cadar such an affinity for torps, and why is Steel Song stuck on the outer edges of the quadrant like some poor shy nobody watching the popular kids through a dirty window...

Look, to be honest, most of the stuff that fans of the game have written about the factions is not meant to be taken as Cannon. Nonetheless, there are threads lying deep within the forum that have tried to unravel the true back stories of the game. They are buried so deep within that I wouldn't even know where to start looking.
Don't ever feel that you shouldn't ask questions about why this and why that though. Some Biblios might be able to find the relevant link here or there.

For the Rychart hats, I think its because their flag kinda looks like a beret. For the Steel Song, a few in-game rumors mention that everyone else tried to kick them out, but the Templars wouldn't allow it. As for torps... I think it has to do with Cadar's military focus and being one of the more tech-focused Syndicates (as opposed to the Clans who are smugglers, merchants and boarding-type pilots-- somewhat more medieval in fighting style).

Thanks Officer Genious. I guess I can see the hat in the flag. Cadar's military tech I can see also. According to the game they want control of the syndicate board, so I guess they must prefer taking a military approach to get it. The clans I take it are somewhat archaic, family controlled, set in there ways and reluctant to change?

Ever since I started with Star Traders, my faction of choice is...Thulun. I wonder what the most popular faction is? I suspect Cadar

According to fallen, they're simply the loudest. I don't remember who won the popularity contest for ST2 though.

In a poll of ST2 KickStarter supporters, Explorer was the most loved profession. And, Thulun and Javat were the mosted loved Factions.

Somewhere on this forum is a nice Steel Song flag with bullet holes. ... and with arrows poking through the centre of their target symbol. Pirates are great because of the starting skills they get. Until the designer captain came about though, I always picked Spy
