When you finally wipe out Xenos on a planet, it's completely empty until you get a transport with a colony. Currently when a transport lands I envision Little Timmy with his sister Sally, walk onto this planet, parents in tow as they go to get their pre fab house and Robo farmer. Meanwhile overhead military ships battle with the Xenos because this planet is still on the front lines.
What I propose is there be a combat colony module. Basically 1 hab unit. A primitive space port, and depending on how far research has been for planetary defense, and depending on quality, troops for defending the planet.
You can even create different colony modules with the focus being a free FDF battalion at Mil Base 2 and FDF Battleforce for mil base 3.

Haha, after the first paragraph, I was envisioning a different end to Timmy and Sally.
Timmy and Sally played everywhere together. They loved playing Explorer like their uncle, who was a crew member of one of the Thulun scout ships. Mary, Timmy and Sally's mother was busy helping out with the configuration of the Robo Farmer. The device was manufactured by Steel Song, and therefore was giving Mary no end of grief. Right now, it seemed intent on plowing the side of the 'Fab. She saw the kids run by, giggling with enthusiasm as only kids have. Mary called out after them in a distracted manner, "Now kids, be careful, and always play where I can see you okay?" That confounded Robo Farmer! Now it wanted to plant potatoes in the window of the 'Fab!
Timmy chased Sally through the complex, and Sally, being the smaller of the two, was able to duck into the warren access tunnels under and around the habitat. "No fair, Sally!", exclaimed Timmy. "You can't go down there, that's cheating!"
Sally just laughed and shouted back "You can't catch me, I'm super-"
Timmy didn't catch that last bit of what Sally said, and yelled "If you're going to be like that, then I'm not playing anymore. I'm going back home!" Sally didn't respond, and Timmy thought that was even more of a reason why he should just ignore his sister for a bit. Let her play by herself for a bit. She'd get bored and come back up to play.
An hour later, Mary had finally managed to get the Robo Farmer to work in the designated farm area. She saw Timmy throwing stones against the back of the 'Fab, and went over to him. "Hi Timmy, where's Sally?"
Timmy looked up. "Hi Mom, Sally cheated, so I'm not playing with her."
Mary smiled and would normally have left the kids to sort things out on their own, but she wanted to head out to the community store. "Where's Sally, let's go get her and head out for some ice cream."
"She's over there, in that access-way. She cheated and is probably still hiding there."
Mary felt a little tendril of anxiety run down her spine. The kids shouldn't be playing there, and the hab complex had been placed close to the wreckage of a Xeno base. The land around that base was some of the only usable terrain for clicks. Trying to act casually so as not to alarm her son, Mary walked over to the entrance of the access-way and called out, "Sally, come out, you know you shouldn't be playing down there." There was no response. "Timmy, are you sure Sally didn't come out?"
"No I'm not. I wasn't watching out for her. I was playing my own game"
"Sally! Come out now! It's not funny now, the game is over!". Still no response. "Timmy, can you go in there and see if you can see where your sister went?"
Timmy nodded, then gingerly squeezed himself between the pipes and cables. He looked around in the dim lighting, and couldn't see much ahead. "Mom, do you have a torch, it's really dark down here, and quite slimy! Sally, come out! Mom's really angry and you're in big trouble!"
"Tim, come out, maybe Sally isn't there anymore." Mary hoped her voice didn't sound as nervous as she was.
Timmy shuffled back up towards his mother. How could Sally stand it going through all that slimy stuff. It felt gross on his skin.
Mary watched her son move toward her, and as he moved back into the light, she screamed. She screamed until all of the air was gone from her lungs, and after gasping in more air, she screamed again!
"Mom, what's wrong?" Timmy felt frightened now and clambered out of the access way towards his mother. Her screams were scaring him and he had never heard her sound so horrible. Then he looked at his hands, and realized they were covered in dark red liquid. That slime that he felt in the darkness was not slime, but blood. His screams mirrored his mother's.

minorfrost you can equip a military transport with a colony module and colonize training. using an enhanced colony module like the lvl3 one will accomplish a similar effect even more so if its a steel song ship

I have an idea about Invasions too!
Could we direct ground forces ourselves, directing what objectives on the map of the planet/system they attack? It would be amazing to do that!

Even with a House Thulun colony, you still need 7 turns to do a subsidized build of a orbital defense I. Also on those type of invasions, by time you set up your colony (more of a Forward Operation Base) you fleet will be hurting and low on fuel. A cheap FOB will be nice.
