So everyone pitch in your ideas please!
Achievements for beating every map on hard, crazy , impossible
Seperate achievement for beating the Garden on impossible srsly that is an achievement worthy feat
Maybe an achievement for designing your first custom ship. Mainly to encourage new players to use the ship designer.
Mix Master: win a game with one syndicate, great house, and clan making up your team

Very cool ideas, CdrPlatypusI think this is an absolute must. Beating it on any difficulty is a feat! Impossible is the crowning achievement right now. Maybe do it based on mass? Design your first 3000 Mass ship, first 5000 Mass, first 7000 Mass and so on.

Cory Trese On mass sounds good. I like achievements, but only ones with meaning not little silly ones. I was just thinking that it might be something along the lines of the tutorial completion achievement to give newbies a poke in the right direction

Meaningful achievements are always great.
Is there a way if getting minor gameplay bonuses from them?
Eg: Heavy Enginering "Design your first Heavy Reactor ship" Gives +3% refuelling bonus

no pain no gain - thats my thought about achivements I really like achivements in ST - you really must work to get most of them, so im not enthusiast of achivements that you get just by playing (like customising first ship) about customising different mass ships - i think that it would be better to get achivements like: get 20xp with 3000 mass fighter get 20xp with 3000 mass cruiser get 20xp with 3000 mass carrier get 20xp with 3000 mass heavy carrier get 20xp with 3000 mass battlecruise get 20xp with 3000 mass strike cruiser get 20xp with 5000 mass fighter get 20xp with 5000 mass cruiser get 20xp with 5000 mass carrier get 20xp with 5000 mass heavy carrier get 20xp with 5000 mass battlecruise get 20xp with 5000 mass strike cruiser get 20xp with xxxx mass yyyy maybe add to this faction ships like mesa hawk fighter or thulun cutter 20xp is something that made you think about how to make better and usefull ships, and also just force you to test them

How about some that can be earned passively that actually teach a bit about the mechanics?
Cartographer - Save 4 systems on your Star Map in a Game Political Savant - Successfully remove 5 negative political treatise Know when to hold em - Have a ship gain 5 xp from combat operations. Know when to fold them- With Less than 15 Hull, get a ship with 5xp to a green zone and survive for 2 turns. Repo Man- Destroy a ship of your own design If only we had Little Fingers- Excluding the first year, Triple your income in a single year.
We should also have achievements that mark the personal playstyles of some players.
Exalting Banks- By the end of the first year, get income to +300$ Like Rabbits- By the end of the second year, have 12 Colonies They came from nowhere- in a year, successfully invade or destroy at least 5 xeno/future enemy type colonies. With Knowledge, power- in a year, research 6 technologies.
Now with these ones I'm just kinda making up something but I'm sure these little achievements go a long way into making a player feel happy about a route they have chosen.

By the way, Exalting Banks was named for EXALT, the bankers with laser weapons that are aligned with the aliens.
The Little Fingers one was named for Littlefinger in Game of Thrones.

I don't know if this is possible given the engine, but I'm an older gamer from before achievements were a thing. I get one, look at it, go "cool" and then forget to ever check it again. Age of Wonders 3 has a nifty feature where you get a reward in game for being the first player to have "x cities", "a lvl 20 hero", "big bad ctrl-alt-del spell of undoing researched first".
I also like abysmal's ideas about making achievements that 1. teach basic game mechanics is cool (although i don't know how good the tutorial is now ever since it's been updated) and 2. reflect a player's chosen style of play. Kind of like static but active missions which force you to play a certain way. The problem I think exists, is that once you get an achievement like that, doing it again doesn't matter at all, cause the player isn't rewarded with a visual stimulus or even confirmation.
I don't know what would be possible vs. improbable in the game, but get 5000 creds (whatver number) for building 30 ships within the first year, or researching 20 techs. Point being you pick and choose which one to go for, because they're set to be mutually exclusive.
That way you could have early, mid, and late game "achievements" that you could get every game, and it'd force different playing style. Not sure if this is either in line with the philosophy or possible with the engine.

I'm not sure if these are in the game yet or had already been mentioned.
I'm not dead yet. An achievement for refueling/repairing a single fighter more than 100 water fuel or HP.
Fast-expander. An achievement for colonizing x number of planets before year 2. (Not sure what a good number would be yet)
Where no man has gone before. An achievement for exploring x number of anomalies in the first year.
