tenbsmith mines are the way to go. Javat is my favorite faction in ST4X. While everyone else is whining or politicking they get down and dirty. All business. Javat just mine it!

Nyktos are my current kryptonite. Doing well, four colonies per faction, massive income. Then invasion. One vessel slups past my fleet, and parks itself in orbit. Now surrounded by six fighters and two cruisers that each fire shots, that miss. 8 shots, no dmg done, colony gone. Now ive gone from two trade alliances and a route to a spy war and a trade war, making -278 a turn. Talk abut your glass houses.

The easiest tactic I've found so far is the cheapest possible fighter hull with fastest reactor, zero durability, tons of evasion and lots of accuracy. Manufacture as many of them as your income could afford and just roll everything flat. 3-5 fighters per enemy ship - they don't stand a chance. Assuming proper carrier support, you hardly lose any of them. Even if you lose, they are so cheap, you replace them faster than they are going down. And on later stages, you just not lose any of them, since enemies die before they can shoot.

sheff sounds like you need to retool your ships for accuracy Sounds like I need I lot of things. It was hilarious. It was only maybe, the fifth or sixth wave. And I thought my foundation was fairly stable, that I could keep taking on the minor numbers they were sending my way until I could get an invasion force together. Then this little ity bity gunship sneaks his way through my entire fleet before kicking me right in the balls. It's like cory programmed them to do that...

Yeah I've noticed the Nyktos AI seems to like sending worldkillers straight through the line of skirmish

Yeah. I do need to experiment more with the ship designer. I have never used a custom made ship yet. Never even made one.

I have. That's what got me thinking about it. Most impressive. Here I was wasting time with heavy barrages from a standard fighter unit.

sheff- it's a whole new game once you start stomping with your own custom ships, and the ones CdrPlatypus put up in the thread are top notch.
