It seems that the soldier will shoot enemies outside the Overwatch box. In particular when the enemy is past the Overwatch box in a direct line of sight from the soldier to the box.

The way OW works is that your Soldier will defend any tile he or she is guarding.
Any enemy unit that attempts to move into those tiles will be attacked.

It seems that the soldier shot the Xeno before the Xeno entered the 3x3 box. Suggestion: leave a light image of the Overwatch box on the ground between turns. That would also help if you have multiple Overwatch boxes and don't want to overlap them.

The Soldier shoots the Xeno when the Xeno attempts to enter the 3x3 box. If that's still confusing, I screenshot or make a video or something. Definitely working as designed.
The suggestion is a bit tricky -- we've gone back and forth between what you suggest and the way it is. We settled on this mode because it just looks so much better later in the game. With two Soldiers it is one thing, but with 6 and a pair of Hydra it gets really insanely ugly.

jknut - great suggestions! We'll look at improving the visual representation of OW to help reinforce the rules about which squares are covered.

In the video (private Youtube link), it looks like the soldier shoots the Xeno outside the box, then again when the Xeno goes inside the box. It's also too bad that the fog is covering the enemy but the solider still shoots him. It seem logical that the fog wouldn't be there if the soldier can shoot and hit.

jknut - thanks for the video, what you are seeing is 100% intended functionality atm.

If I understand it correctly, the xeno is about to enter an overwatched tile, so it gets shot before it makes the move, rather than after it makes the move.
1: Before OOO X OOO T OOO
2: Xeno is starting to move into the overwatch area, so he gets shot now. OOO XOOO T OOO
3: Xeno is now about to move into center overwatch tile, so he gets shot again. OOO XOO T OOO
4: Xeno is about to move into right edge overwatch tile, so gets shot again. OOO OXO T OOO
5: Xeno is now about to move out of overwatch area, so doesn't get shot. OOO OOX T OOO It's confusing because one expects the xeno to get hit inside the overwatch area, not outside it. It would be more intuitive if the shot was displayed after the xeno moves, rather than before it.

It might be more intuitive but it's less good for the player.
We're going to fix this by increasing the size of the OW graphic to overlap parts of adjacent tiles.
We hope that will fix the visual issue and let us keep the good math and rules.

As a player, I agree with Cory lol. Please keep the xenos at a distance.
