Reasons why would be very helpful too Have only just unlocked them both, so advice on general usefulness of both these would be fantastic, even to tell me that they are basically trash and that I should have used the space for more sails. Im flying at the moment a 36 hull Behomoth wittily called 'New Design' (iOS Bug? Im pretty sure I put a name in...) if that helps, but I do fly wimpier vessels with other captains. Thanks in advance

I use the recycling plant mostly because I love ships that doesn't consume WF on green sectors so red ones are my main problem.
About the name of your ship : go to a planet of a faction that you have military rank with, go to the star dock and then to military base. There you are able to rename your ship.
Hope that helps.

Water recycling plant is more effective for long-distance travel. However, the gravity scoop is designed for when you are in orbit. Did you know that when you are in orbit, your solar sails are retracted and you no longer get any efficiency from having them? That's why your WF consumption is much much higher when you're orbiting (and explains why you might feel you have a hole in your fuel tank when you are doing surveillance or blockades).
Note also even though your sails are retracted, you have greater chances of being hit by orbital debris, resulting in increased sail damage because your sail pods are hit by small objects traveling at tens of thousands of miles per hour.
most times you travel, even long distance, you can usually stay on the green. Traveling from North West to South East is really easy because of the Rychart territory in the middle of the quadrant. You end up going through about 10 red sectors the entire trip.
Travel from North East to South West is not so good though - lots more red zones to travel through. BUT who would go to the south-west? It's only Steel Song territory and so there is nothing of any real consequence.

Thanks for your replies! I hasn't thought about the orbit thingy for blockades... No wonder I kept getting low.

I usually go for the red sector bonus. By the time I have the money to buy it, I have the money to buy enough wf between green sector links. Long hauls are the big wf eaters for me.

I blockade planets ALOT so GWFS. Combine GWFS with an insanely high pilot skill like 100+ every 50 levels and a finrir dart oh and basic difficulty... well lets just say... very low WF consumption in orbit
