I haven't tried one out yet, but let's compare a newbie shotgun to the starter pistol...
Sawed shotgun Lightfire
Power: 3 3 Penetration: 1 1 Accuracy: 2 6 Ammo: 5(pistol) 8(pistol) Range: 2 3 Speed: 2 2 Cost: 700 200
It seems like the lightfire is equal to or better than the shotgun in all categories. Is there something going on behind the scene?

To me the shotguns currently do not seem to work well.
In my opinion - I like the APK32 for slot 1 and the MT Taser Unit (Stun gloves) for slot 2.

drudj - you have chosen to compare a weapon made by the illustrious Mars Inc to the worst possible plugger, made by street gangs. I started to make a counter argument to show the Security Defender (Mars) vs. Lightfire (Mars) but then realized that the Lightfire is way out of bounds in the balance sheets. It is one of 3 weapons that has accuracy higher than 4. No one promised that new weapons will be in a linear progression to "better." As you get a team of people, you will want variety. My most successful CK character at the moment carries a SR 17 Destroyer (used most of the time) and the Faullaugh Loader (fired only when needed). That said -- we are always open to suggestions, and if people don't want to use the shotguns because they aren't balanced well enough, we can work on fixing that. In the mean time, I can take another look at that ridiculous pistol.

Right now monsters don't have any armor and all weapons have the same penetration power.
This will be fixed soon and things will start to make more sense.
Lightfire should nerf'd slightly when we do the "starting EQ" patch

i really dont know about everyone else, but i dont see the problem with the lightfire pistol. sure it hits more often that your other weapons, but it takes multiple hits to take down most opponents, sometimes even 3 or 4 hits. that makes the weapon not as useful as others with lower accuracy but higher damage. i dont even use it any more. but i must say, if i didnt have that gun at the beginning, then i might not have gotten past the first bits of the game, due to combat being very difficult (probably due to the fact the game is made to be played with a team)

Volyren Nightsong - agreed. the problem is probably more linked to the fact that the plugger's Power is equivalent to the pistol. We will take another look through shotguns and pluggers as we prepare to release tactical machine guns and rifles to make sure its all balanced together (and worth the hefty credit cost).

Am I the only person that uses the Raptor II? I mean 6 power, 3 Acc is good, right?
Maybe when the 1 Penetration becomes an issue once armour comes into play... but still...

I would pay big bucks for machine gun that hit multiple targets. Even if it only hit for full damage on a primary target and everyone else in range only gets nailed for 25-50% of the primary target damage. Keep the to hit % the same for all targets for simplicity.

Simplicity has never really been a goal when calculating % in our RPGs =)

Having different team members to arm and equip will make this discussion ultimately more tantalizing =)

Having different team members to arm and equip will make this discussion ultimately more tantalizing =) Then, here's my wish list! ;D 1. Team Leader - All types 2. Sniper (Rifles) 3. Brawler (Gloves) 4. Swordsman (Blades) 5. Psionic (Brains) 6. Gunslinger (Pistols/Auto) 7. Heavy Arms (Machine Guns) 8. Demolitions Expert (RPG Launchers)

I don't like the smg w/ pistols or auto rounds. I mean sure guns like HNK447 has a 12 round capacity but being able to shoot one guy at a time is really annoying...
I go for sniper rifles by the way...

james123 - want to make sure i get the request. You don't like that some of the SMGs are using the pistol rounds? Some of the heavier MGs use the auto rounds (more expensive). Please clarify =) Second, you are requesting the capability to hose a set of nearby enemies with a single round of shooting? That sounds sick... i wonder how we would set that up... maybe if the enemies are all within a box (the classic cross, or a flower, like you use to get with a fireball in Shining Force or Final Fantasy Tactics) you could spend extra AP and spray them down?
