They don't directly answer the ship materials questions, which still seem to be unanswered.

As for what the skill does, it seems, but is not crystal clear, that it reduces the defences and attack capabilities of the target.
But by how much?
How is it measured?

Well dang, I'd always assumed that the "+3 gun" was a to hit bonus for any gun ships firing on the boarded xeno vessel.
