I updated today 7/28/15. Tried launching...gave me unknown error. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Same steam Unknown Error.
Shut down steam..relaunched steam...same error.
Reboot laptop fully, after steam updated and launched tried 4X again. This time it gave me a Windows error first saying bootstrap loader unresponsive then ut came up with the Steam unknown error again.
I've been able to play it on steam before...no understanding as to why it isn't working properly now.

Hoping others can report the same issue so that we can try to troubleshoot. Currently we can't reproduce this.
Can you report your OS version and setup?
Can you double check your prereqs for the game?
MINIMUM:
OS: Windows XP, Windos Vista, or Windows 7 / 8
Memory: 512 MB RAM
Graphics: Requires OpenGL 2.0 or higher
Hard Drive: 200 MB available space
Additional Notes: Requires MS Visual Studio C++ Runtime 2012 x86
Is Heroes working?

That's a huge bummer. Hopefully your machine will be able to get far enough into the Steam loader to initialize the game. Sadly, ST 4X hasn't even been started running if you are getting Steam unknown error -- that's all inside Valve's SDK  Hopefully you'll be able to come up with a work around or Steam will push out an update that fixes it! We'll keep doing test installs on all our machines -- very helpful if you could do as fallen asked and provide all the details about your machine. We're only currently testing the latest version from Steam on Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8 on Intel and AMD CPU. If you're using something else, let us know! |
