Cory Trese, fallen, will the great clans ever become playable factions in star traders RPG?

Yes, possible -- but they wouldn't have planets. Would people still play them?

That is true. We get into some trouble for having this feature in ST and AoP. This is an excellent thing to discuss. Currently, Factions do not add a lot of specific bonuses. We'd have to improve that to justify adding 3 more .

Truthfully, faction specific bonuses have never entered my mind when I start a new game in ST. Especially when there are specific bonuses for the character classes. Are you thinking about specific faction bonuses like those in ST4x?

Just trying to think of a reason why the average player would want to play these additional Factions.

Thanks Cory Trese for listening. What you're saying makes sense, and I don't have an answer to why people might want to try them. I'd try them just because they were there. But maybe I'm not average or normal. I mean I've played and died many times with both favorites and factions I don't like. I've played as a Thulun star trader, Thulun smuggler, Javat merchant, Javat smuggler, Rychart spy, Cadar military officer, Steel Song Zealot, DeValtos merchant, independant star trader, independant captain, an independant military officer. And probably a few combinations I can't remember. What about some new faction specific ship upgrades instead of bonuses?

I would play them because they were they and I liked the flags

I'd play as them. If they can't have a home world then, maybe a new class would be a way to give them a bonus?

Balancing new Classes and new Factions at the same time doesn't sound realistic for me to do right.
I'm thinking about the clans -- I just cannot see it being a reason for someone to upgrade or purchase.

Oh definitely ST 2. Maybe ST RPG too, I'm not sure. Still gathering your input =) Well, I've been thinking about faction specific bonuses for the Great Clans and off the top of my head I cane up with the following: Moklumnue is a clan based on trade. So increased percentage chance to reduce buy prices and increase sell prices at exchanges. Decrease the negative rep. recieved when trading at exchanges during trade embargoes. Alta Mesa are ship builders so their ships should be more effecient. So reduce water-fuel consumption in red space. Or reduce the costs of ship design so their crefit buys more. Zenrin always have moral loss protection. But I read somewhere that they are fanatical warriors. They could recieve increased xp and positive rep from battling (pirates, bounty hunters, military, xenos). Maybe less chance of dying from an encounter with xenos...

Cory Trese, another thought on the Zenrin. Because they are used to hardships, howcabout reducing the chance of mutiny when morale does get low. Let that stack with other mutiny/morale modifiers (the Captain and pirate class, and Crew Boss officer).

Just trying to think of a reason why the average player would want to play these additional Factions. All that you'd have to do is give the factions space stations with certain aspects to them that the core factions don't have. For instance give Moklomnue the most powerful economy, with the best prices around and excellent pay for their contracts. Or, give Alta Mesa unique ship upgrades and ships that you can't get anywhere else. These Space Stations could function similarly to Urban Zones, except that they move around like rumors, and the only way to find them is by a.) Getting military rank or b.) Finding them based on a rumor. For instance "A buddy of mine told me he traded with a Moklomnue outpost a few months ago. He said it was just a few million kometers from Unionized Quixann". Then, when you get within, say, 1 AU of it, you get a random encounter fighter demanding you either leave or submit to inspection (surrender), and, after you surrender, your ship docks at the space station.
