I think the ranges of the heavy/sniper weapons need to be increased. The stand off range between a sniper weapon (range 6-8 or 9)and a normal weapon (such as an SMG or good pistol, range 4 or 5) can be closed in a single combat phase. The range between a sniper weapon and a melee weapon can be closed in a single combat turn. In these time intervals, while the attacker is closing the range, the sniper can get off only one shot (maybe 2 with high APs). Unless I'm missing something?
I actually think all the ranged weapons might need to have their ranges increased, or alternatively the movement speeds/distances need to be reduced, as it's too easy to close inside the range of a ranged weapon, across open terrain. There are enough cover opportunities that it should still be possible for a melee character to be effective, they just need to be more tactical.
Something more like: it takes a full combat turn to close to melee range from the maximum range of a pistol-type weapon, and multiple full combat turns to close the maximum range of longer-range weapons.
I realise the ranges are supposed to be effective ranges in a chaotic firefight, not the ballistic maximum range, but I still think a change is needed in the relationship of weapon range to movement distance.

100% agree with this. Because of the ability for a mob to close range rapidly, I rarely us my rifle anymore or even have it equipped. Of course, if the mob spawns 7 thugs within 4 blocks, it doesn't really matter.

It is a good discussion. You are only seeing some of the guns and not using teammates.
So, it is a little bit unbalanced right now on several different dimensions.
Fear not -- I'm running graphs and simulation sheets to work out optimal ranges and closing turns is something we do consider

nyktosI think, that it is too early for that, but I assume, that CB's are familliar with that issue.
