Quick question is the spice in game related to the spice melange of the dune universe? I don't know much about dune but have reaserched it a little and heard it mentioned in these forums in threads about lore like shalun law

There is definitely inspiration from Dune in many places in Star Traders.
However, in the Dune universe the Spice Melange is a powerful almost mystical substance that is harvested on one very unique planet (at least in the early books.)
Dune's spice gives users extended lifespan, the ability to see the future and other, more esoteric capabilities.
In Star Traders, it gives users various forms of intoxication and relief from the dangers of space travel.
Spice in Star Traders is an intoxicant primarily based on how it is prepared, and how concentrated. Various Faction groups enjoy their Spice differently, but all of them build Spice Halls and encourage the trade (import and export) of it.

On Rychart planets, spice is served in paper cups that can then be used as a hat when empty. Cadar use an injectable form that comes in a torpedo like tube. Javet has a gaseous form that can be used with mining masks\helmets. De Valtos will make any way you like it. Something related to an old food chain that said "Have it your way" Those idiot Thuluns liquify it and swim in it. Not sure what Steel Song does.

There are many references to Spice in both the current ST novella and the upcoming releases as well.
There are Spice baths on several De Valtos worlds, that's actually a thing in ST RPG. Only for the ultra, ultra rich who wish to truly waste money.
Like people who bathe in expensive red wines because it is "good for the skin" (protip, it isn't.)

Damn Cory Trese. I thought I was just joking around. People actually bathe in spice! Also how do you know red wine isn't good for bathing? That statement sounds suspicious

Ahh, the amazingly indulgent life of the elite upper class in a space opera universe. What are the most common ways to prepare or ingest Spice? And how does it protect from the danger of space travel?

Very common ways include Spice beer and Spice cakes -- both are very common ways for Crew and Gravs alike to consume it.
It is also ingested directly, although this can cause a lot of health issues. Heavy users of spice snort it, or chew it as a paste (often made with a type of plant called Babak another trade good in ST2.)
Regular consumption of spice provides increased resistance to radiation and helps the body process heavy metals and toxins produced by the Void Engine.

Seeing as it helps with Radiation protection, as well as other dangers of Spacing, does that mean the Templar Order use it as well? Seeing as they spend a lot of time either in space or exposed to the Xeno and their Radiation.

No, for the most part, Templars avoid Spice.
It isn't true of all Zendu bloodlines, but the Templar Order's genetic memories are interfered with by heavy spice use.
It can be used therapeutically in cases where a Templar's memories are causing physical or mental problems.
Long term use, however, is avoided by Templars because it reduces and removes who they are as a people.
It is worth noting that Spice doesn't develop on frozen worlds, like the origin planet of the Templar.

Gaps in the memories?

The Templar genetic memory stretches back many centuries, and with all humans there are those who are born gifted, with a special affinity for the Zendu arts.
The Zendu who became the Templars were trapped for generations on a hell world, a frozen planet literally designed by the Alfaan to imprison, torture and test those who came to live there.
Within the memories of their ancestors, some Templars find dark and terrible things. The truly gifted Templars, those born with the purest connection to their Zendu abilities often suffer terribly, especially if they access memories from Mal Direx before they are fully prepared and trained to process it.
Much of the training a young Templar Knight receives from his or her parents is in preparation for processing the memories and skills that come from their particular bloodline. For those born with the most potential, the risk is great.
The process by which a young Zendu initiates his or her journey into the deeper parts of the genetic memory is called "The Sending" and it is immediately following this process that the most severe issues occur.
