Noob help - pirate ships

Hi everyone, i just purchased STe and i have a question.

As someone who enjoys playing the pirate role this game is great, but what ships best compliment this play style. I am currently aligned with the Cadar Synd. because i read somewhere that they have the best ships for pirate, and i am getting tired of cruising around my Vae Victus.

Early in the game -- especially on the free edition -- capturing ships is often more effective than trying to purchase them.

The best ships are for sale in the Elite map only, so if you are on Elite, head to the south-east corner of the map and shop around.

In particular, get like 300K and start looking for "Starport Expansion" rumors.

I just hit 300k, i will head SE on the map now. I see that pirate based ships need to be on the faster end of the spectrum, but as one that liberates cargo from other vessels is having a larger cargo space important?

Depends on if the pirate is hunting smugglers or merchants.

Merchants carry more low value cargo, and often require a bigger hold to be profitable.

smugglers tend to carry smaller amounts of valuable cargo, but have heavier defenses.

pirates (for me) are Board/Ram fighters and tend to appreciate big armor and big crew more than big hold. but that's just me -- some people on here never use Board at all, so you know it's a matter of what works for your game.

As a pirate, I favor Fast or Quick (or both ) ships with big cargo hold. I also appreciate armor, so I get it by installing upgrades. I have never used any "pirate" ship.

My favorites are:
Jango Class, Kaazar Class, Royal Class, Blade Class, Mars Class, Scimitar Class, and Royal Dark.
