Quick question regarding pirate ships that are always aggressive.
If I am attacked by a pirate ship of a certain faction, why is it that I will lose faction standing if I defend myself? Is the idea that these pirate ships are sanctioned by each faction?
There are times, especially early game, where I can't run from the pirates, don't want to die, and am forced to fight.

Pirates are classed as military ships

Pirates are classed as military ships It appears that is the case, yes, but why? They're pirates. They don't fight for a faction and the faction doesn't support them, so why does the faction care if they get taken out? |

I find that Surrender is an often overlooked option. On Impossible my non-combat characters will Surrender several times during the course of the game. Some people would ignore that button but in a difficult game it can mean the choice between continued play and end game =) |

If I am attacked by a pirate ship of a certain faction, why is it that I will lose faction standing if I defend myself? Pirates of certain faction are more like privateers. They should let you pass if you have Trade Permit by that particular faction. "Real" pirates are the Independent ones. |

Must admit. I always ignore that surrender button lol. Maybe i should give it a go sometime lol. I may live a bit longer
