Right, I see it now. I didn't think it would show up, without any posts announcing it but I was wrong. Be back in a bit =)

slayernz - tried on level 83 for a short while and I have not seen any real difference. It got a bit harder, but nothing which could not be handled. Well, I am taking it back. Now I had a bit more time to play the combat 4.x and... I have died! Yes, yes, yes, Alia II. Shawarazan is dead. I never "resurrect" my dead characters, even I have weekly backup of my whole phone. This time I made exception out of curiosity. Was it accident? Bad luck? So I have died about 20 times, every time from 2x my level Pirate or Bounty Hunter. It was not pretty . I am not complaining. I did not really enjoy playing this character after level 30+. Actually I am glad that "Impossible" stands to it's name a bit better. As I have stated before, Impossible should not be constant cakewalk.

I've found that yes, in Impossible, the enemy captains are definitely more skillful. Pre 4.0.x, I had a level 65 captain on impossible who always won against <120 captains, had a reasonable chance round 120 - 140 captains, and above that, it became iffy. However, playing a level 92 captain on impossible I'm getting similar results to the above. I recently took on a 172 captain and managed to escape with very little of my hide left intact (ie, escape shuttle). It wasn't a cake walk pre 4.0, but now it's a meat mincer. I'm not complaining because like the late Alia II, I expect impossible to be ... well impossible. Makes me want to go back and play Crazy for a while as a holiday

I have started new Shawarazan yesterday and I have to admit that it is still possible, but harder. Goooood ! Bloody lvl 43 Aliens got me this time around level 10... Does this count as strategy failure ;D?

It is possible that at this point we should reconsider the level spread generator.
There are several factors:
- Level of Enemy :: Character Level - Equation Used to Spend Enemy XP - Enemy Move Selection Function
It's a tough balancing act, even if you take the actual dice system of combat out of the picture =)

What do you mean by "reconsider"? I hope you do not mean "make easier"? I cannot speak for other difficulties, but Impossible finally has the right feeling for me (making my first thread in the forum obsolete ).

Making it a teeny bit easier wouldn't be so bad Fenikso ... just not as easy as it was for pirates such as yourself <grin>.
I think the balance would be best tweaked by looking at the equation used to spend enemy XP. I'm guessing that you have different equations based on the different types of enemy captains right? Merchants would have focused more on Negotiate, whereas military would be more on warrior/intimidate.
In any case, I definitely have a healthy respect for the opposition when playing insane.

Ive definately noticed the change since it was implimented. Even on insane im dieing alot at lvl 2 and srruggling to keep any captain alive. Think the best ive had is a lvl 7

Very bad habit of No Surrender

Yeah, the "no surrender" habit was one it took me a long time to learn to break.
Currently I'm pretty good at it, I only really have issues with surrendering to pirates now. When my hold is empty of anything they'd take (i.e. when I'm carry just water/vudka) a surrender is very much the right answer if I'm not looking for a fight. But I really hate surrendering to the pirates, so I often end up a LOT poorer than I would be otherwise (after fixing up battle damage) and occasionally a LOT more dead than I would be if I'd surrendered.
(I also need to learn that when I'm down to low health I really should just give the damn bounty-hunter on my bridge whatever she wants instead of continuing to duel with her. *sigh*)

Just remember that you shouldn't surrender if your captain's health is at 1. This is because the victorious enemy will consistently beat you up one last time to say "I am better than you", and that last hit will take you down to zero health. I've lost a captain that way once and after that, discovered the joy of ramming when I was at 1 health. I was going to die anyway but tried my damnedest to take the military ship with me. Ironically, I survived that encounter because of the ram.
Still hate the ram though ... <grin>
