It would be nice if any unused ordinance could be carried over from mission to mission.
It would be nice if any unused ordinance could be carried over from mission to mission.
Not that I tend to buy much ordnance in the first place, but wouldnt that encourage stockpiling of ordnance by hanging around in the early missions? Doesn't seem to fit the surgical strike tactics of the Templars (my impression so far). My 2p, anyway.

Yeah, I don't tend to use ordnance much, but I think carrying over all of it would break the balance. Maybe choosing 1 to bring though...

Why would it break the balance? The cost of supplying any type of ordinance is high enough that you're not going to be able to hoard much of it. And most sp will be spent bringing in a Templar rather than ordinance.
I agree delaying a mission doesn't match the rapid response surgical strike MO of the Templars. Besides sitting on a tac point and not finishing the mission right away, in order to build sp, could be pointless if there is nothing unlocked in the req tree anyway.
It's just that if you spend 400 sp on a med-kit from a tac point because you might need it. If you don't use it so its wasted sp. The next mission your capitain is getting really beat up and a med-kit would be useful but there's no tac point to get one. You end up dead.
Unless you dump rp to unlock the paladin from the beginning, there isn't anyway to heal your Templars.
Sorry I just hate losing my knights.

I agree that losing knights is a pain in the butt, but I dont think saving ordance is the answer. Theoretically you could spend dozens of turns in an early mission ignoring the objectives and stockpiling ordnance. This would allow you to play any subsequent missions much differently than perhaps intended.
They limit sp given at the start of any mission to fit in line with the difficulty of the objectives and the amount of spawn locations, with the turn goals in mind.
Given, it is a single player game and you can play the missions however you want. If you want to play each mission in twice the given turns that us up to you.
I think (correct me if I'm wrong) Cory and Andrew probably want to avoid making players feel as if they need to stockpile ordnance to beat some of the harder levels. This would make grinding the most powerful strategy, especially at higher difficulty levels. I think they would rather adjust individual levels/ spawn points to fit within the intended difficulty.

SP is not more important than RP for a reason. By allowing the player to hoard SP in the form of ordnance, then the focus of the game-- fast and brutal progression in order to reap as much RP as possible-- becomes muddled.
Think of how broken the game would be if you spent 100-200 turns as soon as you unlocked the first health ordnance just defending your Tact Points and buying a ton of +health ordnance.

En1gma, @kanly, I was never suggesting such an extreme scenario of hoarding as you mention. Simply the ability to carry over some ordinance from one mission to another. Put a limit on the numbers and types of ordinance if needed. But give the player the ability to heal.

The player has lots of Healing options if they wish to use them. Paladins, Med Kits, healing resupply. The Medkit is also given out in many, many levels as a bonus.
It seems to be working really well based on the metrics we're gathering. Carrying any SP between levels (in ordinance or otherwise) is not part of the plan for BF.
Thanks for the feedback and discussion.

Thanks for the feedback and discussion. Its a great game and I wasn't really complaining. Well, maybe a little about not having a medkit when I need it. But that's my fault for being too aggressive I think I'm going to start over and concentrate on getting a paladin early to help the healing.

I'm currently working on some tips for playing at Ironman and have found a path to the Paladin that will allow you to unlock them by the time your done with the tutorial missions. You can then get one out on the first level of the Ferarai Lance mission if you choose the Hold one. Do as follows,
L2: Get Operational Command, Battle Suit and Specialists Adaptions L3: Get Engineer 1+2, Born Leader, and Heavy Suit Adaptions L4: Get Battlefield Leader, Soldier 1+2+3, Scout 1+2 L5: Melee Specialist 1+2, Paladin 1, and Healer 1
I'll have the rest of the first part of the tips posted later today.

Kanly, I use my Paladins as pure Healers. The Two talents I focus on are Battlefield Medic and Enhancers. I max out the Medic Skill and then put 9 points into Tactics, then finish building Warrior. I max out Strength then Fortitude for my Attributes.

Why you cant do it like this: Every ordnance you find via secondary objectives will carry over to the next mission, while bought ones via tact point will disappear when the mission ends.
