Why? I purchased this for my tablet to play at work during lunch and down times. As my work is a secured facility, no internet access is allowed . So, is the check really needed everytime I want to play ST Elite? It sure would be nice if it was not. Thanks for reading!

This service is provided by Google. There are several ways that you can get around this check -- the easiest is to authenticate once every few weeks or months to the server so that the token is cached.
Google operates the service, sets the cache on your device's secure memory and control the whole works. We really do not do anything other than make a request to Google's library.
Most people find that the solution is to wait a little while and authenticate a few times.
If you are still having trouble in a little while, post back and I will dig up the old forum links to previous discussions which may also help.

Hi Cade,
Currently the game authentication check is done on first launch, then the results are cached so you don't actually need an internet connection to restart a game later on. You do still need to do an internet-connected check every week or so but if you play the game with any regularity that hopefully won't be a problem.
If the Authentication thing is really causing you grief, one option that you can also do is start a game up at home, then let it sit in the background. With my Android device, if I hold down the Home button, displays the last 8 most recent apps. Then if I select my ST game, it takes me straight into what I was doing before.
I rely on the "recent" list because if I go back to the game the normal way (just clicking on the game icon from the general apps menu or homescreen shortcut) I've found that if I've been out of the game too long, most times I get taken directly to the home screen of ST-E rather than where I was last playing.
