Ah, I was misunderstood. I also wasn't very clear... By 'these Alliances' I was referring to the Trade Alliances, not Military Alliances. There is nothing I've found to do to keep a Military Alliance active. There may be ways, but I use exclusively Trade Alliances so that I CAN keep them rolling. What level of difficulty are you typically playing at? My last game was at Normal (which was easily too low) and I had Rychart in the mix so keeping diplomatic relations good was too easy.

I play on normal as well. I agree that having Rychart makes completing treaties faster, but having them constantly under production makes it so they don't need to constantly be rushing to reforge the Trade Alliance/Whatever.
It's just an added later of protection, maybe give it a try on your current game and see how long the T. Alliances last. I have entire years go without dropping a single T. Alliance because I keep up on the treaties.
The money saved by keeping them from lapsing is quite substantial IMO

Normal? I play Crazy at the lowest. The Xeno will feel fear when my warships embark on a crusade to take back the infested worlds!

I really should go up a level, Brutus, but I truly hate dealing with politics. If there was a slider for this difficulty then I would gladly move up a level or three.
My favorite part of this entire game is the ship building and subsequent combat, especially when the Xeno don't let up for well over a year... Combat is where I live in this game.

Oh I love ship design and combat. Endless options for a limited navy. But I find the challenge of politics to be easily managed with proper distribution of Colony worlds. The key to politics is balance of power. Similar total Quality and Mineral scores for each Faction, similar numbers of Ships, even distribution of Capital ships, and even buildup of the economy all factor into happy and cooperative Factions. That and constant treaties.
