I find firestorm 5+ to be the best way to do dmg with KJ at high lvls. You only get one cast but it's a hell of a cast. AOE + dmg (of any type although fire works best for kj) + Crit = gold. It's extremely useful in the underofrge and COD to have a large heavy hitting AOE. Also annoying things like ghoul lords are weak against fire. I find that KJ makes a great force multiplier (through CA) and trash clearer (Firestorm 5+) and this is from my experience playing on nightmare. He can bring the pain.
For the OG team I use Tam or Vraes as my main single target dmg dealer. Tam is unique in that she can be great at focused AOE and single target dmg with the same build.. KJ is the room clearer and Kyera is CC and support. As well as holy artillery later.

It's times like this where I want to just bust out a Neptune Trooper and solve all of Steel's problems with an autocannon. TBG universe game - one can dream - maybe after the sequels/reboots are all done. 1 down 5 more to go I think...

the first 2/3 of the game, into end of ep 2, kj was crazy beast mode. had firebolt 10 as fast as i could without breaking him. now it seems as a level 38 kj going up against monsters with 1600hp that heal 450 a turn... a level 10 firebolt just doesnt cut it anymore. the damage just isnt enough. Tamilin crit hits with RO for 400 plus whole stacks, while kj does a measly 100-150 with barely a 200-250 crit on a blue moon. i am not too happy with firestorm 8 either, sure it hits a lot but the ap to use it is waaay to much when it only does 80-130 damage on 500hp skeletons. tamilin can crank out quadruple hit dps for half as many ap. anyone else feel the same way? running orig team and my only real damage dealer is Tamilin. hmmph. This seems like a problem that you frequently encounter in spells v. weapons damage in RPGs. Mainly, weapons tend to scale far better in higher levels than spells (especially if the game is frequently updated with new gear), so melees or archers tend to out-perform pure casters damage-wise.

With additional +crit% and crit dmg added to the game, this has largely been handled I expect, plus CA is a great acc boon throughout - took me a bit to appreciate as much as I do now.

Yeah this thread's issue has largely been addressed imo. Kjartan can pump out great damage with proper gearing and immolation builds crank out some insane damage. It might not be all personal damage increase but the benefit to the team is just insane (he can single handedly buff everyone's crit by 22%).

I am tempted to try him out just for that in a pure burn damage team. The problem is that using both Fyona and Kjartan would mean that I have no ranged -2 AP curse. I don't think I could possibly survive!

Speaking of gear....do you get the benefits from weapon buffs even if you cast a spell? For instance, if Kyera has 6% SP drain on her hammer and +10 fire damage and casts Retribution for 100 damage, will she get +6 SP back and the 100 damage will include the extra fire?
Speaking of that, I don't know how complicated it would be but....it would be cool if you could see the breakdown of the type(s) of damage you were doing. Either in a combat log or with color-coded numbers that flash like the damage number does now. So in the above example, if of that 100 damage 48 was physical (flashes gray), 38 was fire (flashes red) and 12 was holy (flashes blue). Probably be too complicated to have them all flash but....the combat log would be nice so you could see what's working...

Gear does affect damage. The accessories you wear affect everything (spells and weapon attacks) as do shields and staves. Any other weapon besides staves only affect attacks made with that weapon. For instance, Vincent is using a sword that gives +10 lightning damage. If he cast Storm Strike 1 he will get a total of +14 lightning damage on the attack. If however he casts energy storm he gets no bonus on the lightning damage from the sword as it is not a staff and does not add any damage to spells (only sword attacks). This is why casters that do damage should always wear staves and why it is hard to make a melee + spell caster Vincent/Kyera (because you either equip a staff to improve spell damage or equip a sword/mace to increase weapon damage, but never both at once).
